INCWELL is a 25-year-old native of Washington D.C., born in and around capitol area suburbs. INCWELL blossomed from a broken home and two severely drug addicted parents one whom lost their life before INCWELL turned six years old. His all-too-common tragic upbringing has given him true perspective and a very distinct artistic candor. Since the age of 16, INCWELL, a.k.a Craig Carozza-Caviness (legal name) has held a special place in his heart for music. Although, until the age of 18, where he faced a few life-altering situations he did not believe he had what it took. Since then he has taken it upon himself to dedicate all this time to his true passion and future, music.
INCWELL prides himself on having a unique flow and being exceptionally versatile. He accredits this to his taste in music and his openness to listen and take in all genres of music. He is particularly fond of old school R&B such as Marvin Gaye and Al Green. He was once noted as saying "if I could sing I would but I can't. So I have to make people feel through my words, my lyrics. That's why I put so much of my life in my music because who hasn't felt pain and love. So show me one person that can't relate and feel that. And I'll show you a person who won't like my music." INCWELL's uncanny ability to write and paint intricate pictures with his lyrics have been known to give listeners the chills. Streetz Magazine music ed itor wrote (March 2005 Issue): "When we received this kids package we thought it was gonna be some bull, but when we played the CD the team got real quiet. WHOA!! Remember the name INCWELL." INCWELL, along with his band, "The FreeWord", have began to seriously push the limits of music. Coining phrases to describe their sound such as 'Vintage Nouveau' and 'Genreless' their amalgamated, 'mashed up', and esoteric compostition sets them apart from the pack. 'The FreeWord' also has a very dynamic and diverse aesthetic appeal which manifest itself the moment they take the stage. Along with his musical achievements INCWELL has also gained recognition through his civic work. Whether volunteering to coach youth basketball, teaching an after-school creative writing (‘Hip-Hop’) class, or working closely alongside non-profit organizations he has become synonymous for his tireless community service. He was officially recognized by The Washington Post in 2006 and received the highest honor by being named 1 of 10 Black Men in the Nations’ Capitol to Represent a Pulitzer Prize winning series entitled “Being a Black Man.” INCWELL also frequents different group homes and youth centers as a mentor and motivational speaker while striving to be a positive role model for troubled youths and adolescents. Through the years INCWELL has also been coined with the nickname 'Yung Jimi Hijo' because of his love for the music of Jimi Hendrix. He has also coined himself the original 'Sun Don't Shine boy'(or SDS boy) as a metaphor for the increasingly frustrating struggle to escape the limelight of his area's silence and non-existent presence in today's ever-growing music industry. Maybe the most recent of all the above coined aliases has been ‘INCWELL, Rebirth of the Flower Child.’ When asked about how and why he anointed himself with this name he said, “A lot of People ask me what is 'Rebirth of the Flower Child?' I really think the original Flower Children such as; Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, etc., were on to something great! While I don't agree with all of their views on all of the important social issues, I do believe in the basic fundamentals and ideologies that they represented. Love & Peace!! Like anything else time has passed and so the movement has progressed and evolved. Just because you’re a Flower Child doesn't mean you can't still be fly as hell. It doesn't mean you have to be a liberal. It doesn't even mean you have to smoke. Nowadays, for me at least, the idea of being a Flower Child represents unity, diversity, and free flowing ideas!! Our generation needs more positive movements and credos to live by.”-INCWELL Although young, his age is over shadowed by his maturity and his vivacious work ethic. So to date INCWELL can proudly say he has written over 800 songs and recorded well over h alf of them. When asked if he could recite a few of his favorite lyrics his said this "I know pain, I’ve lost more than I have gained, but what I’ve gained through my losses made me a better man, than money ever can!"-INCWELL
