first off......i want to tell you how i got my DJ name. i always wondered how so many DJs got their DJ name. is it their real name, did they just make it up, or did someone give it to them?.....................................
well, in 6th grade....my teacher, Mrs. Paris, had a favorite T.V. show that she used to watch all the time. it was a 70's hit called 'Hawaii-Five 0'. i still to this day have never seen a single episode of this series, but apparently, one of the characters name was, Dano. now.....i wasn't the only Daniel in my 6th grade class. there was 4 of us. so Mrs. Paris tried to devise a way to where she can call us all by our names, but change them a little. one she named, Dan, another, Danny, the 3rd, Daniel......and then there was me, the 4th Daniel, but she had already decided to name another one Daniel. Mrs. Paris tried hard to think of what she could call me. she didn't want to call on Daniel, and 2 people answer. then it came to her......her favorite character on Hawaii-Five 0, DANO! and the funny thing is, is that it fits perfectly......that day Daniel Owens became, DANO. BOOK 'EM, DANO!.........................................................................................................................
In the early months of 1995, in his senior year of high school, Daniel Owens didn't know that he wanted to become a DJ. he was just barely making it through high school wondering what he was going to do with his future. June came around, and Daniel ended up coming up short for graduation by 5 credits. He wasn't going to go to Summer School. He decided to make the best of his Summer, and finish his credits the following school year in Adult School, which he did, and got his diploma. between June and the following school year, the Summer of '95 was when Daniel Owens' life would change forever...............................................................................................................
Going to music stores such as Sam Goody's (which i don't even think are around anymore), and The Wherehouse (which i think turned into F.Y.E. aka For Your Entertainment), was always a place he loved to go. Most of the good record stores (Elevator Records & Champion Sound) were in downtown San Diego, but Sam Goody's was right down the street. One day he picked up his 1st 2 electronic music compact discs. he had never heard of John Kelly or Superstar DJ Keoki before, but his random ear for music wanted to listen what these two were about. He went home, and listened to one, then the other, and his ears were finally open to a sound that he loved. .........................................................................................................................
Through the rest of the 1990's, Daniel would help promote the Electronic Dance Music Culture by promoting other events, and throwing house parties. He then created 'Poetiksounds', combining his love for music and poetry in the EDM culture. .........................................................................................................................
In 2000, Daniel bought his first turntables which was a Gemini box set, and headed to Headstone Records in Redlands to buy his first records he would use to mix. Shortly after, Daniel decided to release his alter ego. Dano stepped into the L.A. scene and quickly became associated with many crews and promoted for different events all around L.A., O.C., and S.D. MATRIX Family, Neosapiens, Fundamental Entertainment, just to name a few. .........................................................................................................................
Dano went on haitus for several years, going through some of the hardest and roughest times of his life, but he's glad he went through it because he wouldn't be where he is today with a loving family and great friends................................................................................................................
In 2005, Dano stepped back into the scene in full force establishing himself back in the L.A. area, along with starting a new creation in San Diego. His years of promoting paid off and he became a resident DJ with the Los Angeles Production crew, NEOSAPIENS, and was apart of many of there past events, (Music For Robots 1,2,3, Space Opera 2, Astral Bits, Binary History, Primal Trance, Massive Thanx, Neokulture parts 1 & 2, and Earth is One Country). He also started the Music For Robots Volume Collection, which became a staple in the Neosapiens archives. His newest and latest mix, "Pause for a Cause" can be found on www.ugmusic.us.
One More Time was the last house party event that Poetiksounds put together, and Dano felt he needed to refresh his passion for EDM.
In 2008, the INDECENT FAMILY was born. many of San Diego's best kept secrets were not part of any productions, crews, affiliations, or had nowhere to call home. he noticed that throughout the years other crews didn't want any outsiders coming into there hood, so to speak. so....he gathered several DJs from around San Diego and beyond, and made a home for us all....a home which is INDECENT. Dano & Friends made a new place in San Diego where you could feel the underground vibe with fresh beats. Into The A.M. was a free weekly event every friday that started in February of 2008 and lasted for 8 months straight up until September of the same year. Indecent Entertainment is also a proud sponsor and promoter of free EDM events, such as LOVEFEST aka LOVE PARADE in San Francisco, and EARTHDANCE @ Balboa Park in San Diego. free INDECENT events include: WAM BAM (Valentines Weekend), HAZY DAZE (4/20-Earthday celebration), SPRING FLING, the AFTERMATH, MAYFLOWERS (Potluck event) & their annual trademark event, SUMMER SESSION (mid-July).
...........................in late 2008, Dano took a break from San Diego to visit Los Angeles for several months. there he was introduced to a new crew to the Los Angeles scene, LEONE Entertainment, where his talent shined in their 1st annual SPREAD the LOVE, where he also created the props for the event as well, showing his diversity in skills contributing to the rave culture. he quickly became the main promoter for LEONE Entertainment, helping make Spread the Love on of the funnest and biggest events Leone Entertainment had pulled off.
............................Recently, Dano has become a guest resident at the Hollywood venue, The Pig 'N' Whistle for an event called FckFamous Fridays which is held by none other then DJ HEAVYGRINDER.
