So many died along this trail that they call the Trail of Tears. They thought that I had died but I still live after all these years. I see myself running now I am trying to get free. I am running from the soldiers at the place they call the knee. The soldiers tried to kill me so that no one else would see. The things they did that day at the place called wounded knee. But I am still alive a witness don't you see. A witness to the Trail of Tears and a place call Wounded Knee. As long as some remember and these events they can describe. I will keep on living for I am part of every tribe. As long as there as those to tell someone else of me. I will always be alive for I am a MEMORY. Help me keep our Native brothers, sisters, and ancestors history and memories alive.Hello my name is Cherokee or you may know me as Lost Cherokee. Some of you may already know me and how hard I've been working to get the word out about this petition. I've been trying to get the word out on it for more than a year now. Alot of you have already signed and left comments and I woud like to thank everyone for taking to time to do so. I truly appreciate every comment left to me. Now, I would like to ask everyone who hasn't already checked or signed the petition for a favor. Please, if you haven't already checked out or signed the petition for a National Native American Holiday that I've posted in a blog on my myspace page. Please, check it out and if you agree, please sign it for your ancestors ( many of you probably have relatives that were Native Americans) and the Native Americans that once roamed this land free and had everything taking away from them by force. The Native Americans are the true keepers of the land. Without them the white settlers would of never made it in the New World. We showed them the way to survive in the New World and in the end it was taken from us for land, gold, silver, buffalo and other things. Please believe me I'm not preaching against what has happened in the past of our country. I don't agree with it though. I believe it was wrong the first real genocide. I believe it's time for America to show the respect the Native Americans deserve and I know that what was taken can never be given back but at least we can honor them by giving them a day, week, or month so that we can honor them, their history, and cultures as they truly deserve and so future generations can learn about them and their different cultures. It's also time to change History books and tell the true stories. After all we have holidays that were created to remember Dead Presidents such as Washington and Lincoln for what they did as well as many other holiday celebrating different cultures. Also, I'm not racist by any means but we have a holiday for African Americans who weren't even orginally part of our country. They were brought here as slaves against their will. Some sold by their own tribes. In fact alot of Native Americans were also slaves. So I ask the question why is there not a Holiday for the true people of the America. The people that were here long before Christopher Columbus landed on Plymouth. How can you discover something that's already inhabited? I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this and I hope you agree.
