| About BMus (Hons) Indian Music |
Trinity College of Music, in partnership with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (London Institute of Indian Art and Culture), offers a degree in the performance of Indian music. The degree started in September 2006 and is validated by The University of Westmister.
The four-year course will be based at Bhavan's Kensington site, where a strong tradition for the teaching and performance of Indian music and dance has been established. Resources at Bhavan include rehearsal studios, a concert hall, a library with computer and listening facilities, and an archive relating to Indian culture. Students on the programme will have access to the Trinity's Jerwood Library of the Performing Arts.
Within the specialisms of Hindustani and Carnatic music, the course will prepare students for a portfolio career, in which, in addition to performance, teaching, improvisation, composition, business skills and leadship will play an important role.
Students will acquire advanced musical skills in relevant instrumental/vocal techniques, supported by historical/theoretical study, and will be able to select from a variety of electives. One-to-one principal study teaching is at the heart of performance study.
The course will be delivered by Bhavan's team of specialists supplemented by visiting musicians from the Indian sub-continent. Students will also be able to take the internationally recognised Trinity College London diplomas in Indian classical music which have recently been developed.
