Interests

  • General

Reading, music, my children, friends and family, anything that strikes my interest or amuses me.
  • Music

I can't answer this one. There is not enough space to list all of the musical artists that I've admired. However, if you'll listen and subscribe to my podcast below, you might just start to get an inkling....
  • Movies

Wizard of Oz, Psycho, Martian Child, The Shining
  • Television

I'm not really much of a TV watcher anymore, but I do have some favorites of the past and a few current ones....Lost, Quantum Leap, True Blood, The Pretender, House, any of the CSI or Law and Order.
  • Books

Again....my list is too long to answer completely. Anything by John Irving (but especially "A Prayer For Owen Meaney" or "The World According To Garp)or Stephen King. If it has words in it (with or without pictures), I will probably read it.
  • Heroes

My children.....Liz, possessor of a wise old Dalai Lama soul in a 17-year old body, for her energy, love of life and music, compassion, kindness and undying committment. Noah for his ability to roll with the punches of life without permanent scarring.

About me:

Indie Across The Dial is my dream baby. A weekly podcast featuring Indie music of all genres from around the world. After spending more than a year working with Daniel j. Harris (The SoupyGato Show) and Kimmi Rudolph (The Metal Deli and The Rock Deli), I felt it was time for this grasshopper to come out from behind the curtain and take on a show of my own. (Wow, talk about mixing my pop culture metaphors!) In the beginning, I had visions of being a caped crusader, bringing my love of Indie music to the masses and showing them that there is a limitless selection of amazing music living in the shadows of mainstream music. I quickly found that every caped crusader needs a trusty sidekick because saving the world is not a one person job. Now I have a terrific co-host, Mike "Moose" Brown, who fills in for me occasionally and will be hosting a show each month, even if I don't need a substitute. Moose is a great guy, a friend for 20+ years, who will bring a little variety to IATD with his own take on music and his unflappable sense of humor. And I have Rod, my own personal hero, who takes on the more technical challenges for me like web design and management. He also takes on the roles of sounding board, therapist, advisor, and anything else I ask of him. I am a lucky woman to have such incredible sidekicks. On the serious side of things, I really do love music of all types and do believe that Indie music is the Cinderella of the music industry and I want to be the fairy godmother. Having no musical talent of my own, I am totally in awe of anyone who can string notes and words together to form music and believe that all music is meant to be shared, as well and honored and respected for the talent that created it. If you'd like to submit music to be featured on IATD, CD's can be sent to Michelle Thon, 210 Fitzhugh #616, Bay City, MI, 48708, or MP3's to submissions@indieacrossthedial.com. Please, with both formats, include an EPK or bio information (hometown, members, history, etc...), any and all links you may have, and an email address where we can contact you. We'll do everything we can to promote each artist/act featured, but need the proper information to be able to do it correctly. Also, if you'd like to send along any promotional items (shirts, hats, etc...), I'll find a member of my merry band of supporters to model it so a picture can be posted on this site (probably my daughter, Liz, since she is younger and infinitely cuter than either Moose or I). With all that said, I'm loving what I do and can't wait to see where this adventure (misadventure?) leads me to next. I'm enjoying every minute of seeing this particular dream become a reality.

Who I'd like to meet:

Anyone and everyone. Seriously....the great thing about this business is all the people that come into my orbit. There are as many amazing people in this world as there are amazing musical acts.

Word origin of "Rock n' Roll".
zach likes men Returning World War II aircraft engine mechanics coined the term, 'rock 'n' roll". Since most military aircraft engines of this time had a part called a "rocker arm" that had a roller attached to one or both ends to open and close the intake and exhaust valves of an engine, and that this part could be seen when the engine was running with the "rocker arm cover" removed, the mechanics could see this part: "rocking and rolling". An engine that was running well was said to be, "rockin an' rollin". In the 1940's, when the mechanics had leave and could find a place to drink and dance, those G.I.'s who could dance fast and well were said to be able to "rock and roll", just like the fast operating engine part that they were all so familiar with. When these GI's came home at the wars end, they brought the term with them and applied it to the new music that combined Country music, Popular and Western Swing with Rhythm and Blues. The term "Rock 'n Roll" was born from aircraft engines, greasy hands and talented feet from those who survived the war. KALVIN F IS A CUMBUCKET

Some useless information. The origin of the word Barbecue,
Barbeque is a vulgarization of the already pretty vulgar "Barbe a
Queue", or "Beard to Tail". This derives from the fact that in order
to roast a pig, (or what have you) over a fire, one must impale it on
a stick (or what have you), from the "Beard" through "to" the "Tail"
