Those that lost their battles with cancer. Those that are fighting the battle now to survive. Those that have survived and are constantly aware of the beast.
A non profit organization raising money for cancer research and awareness through the involvement of Indie artists and comedians performing at benefit concerts and through compilation CDs from songs and comedy acts each year donated by individual artists. Indie Music for Life is currently working educational awareness programs for music and laughter as therapy to cancer patients. Indie Music for Life needs and accepts donations which are tax deductible. We are looking for corporate sponsors and other organizations to partner with us in reaching these goals.
We are also looking for people to get involved by organizing benefit concerts in your area. On this space we will play different artist songs that have helped us out with benefits in the past or for upcoming benefits and artists that have donated songs to our compilation CD as we find them on My Space and can add their song to our profile. As our comedy project progresses we will feature some of those scripts also. Check back often for updates. But get involved now either by spreading the word, helping organize a benefit, making a tax deductible donation or becoming a sponsor. Media and press outlets may contact Vicki Blankenship at indiemusicforlife@yahoo.com.
Our entity Indiegrrl is producing the First Annual 2008 Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Conference in August, 2008. Please plan on attending and networking with many industry professionals during the trade show exhibit hall, workshops, panel discussions, and the banquet dinner and social gathering. Keynote speakers for the banquet are influential industry celebrities Bonnie Bramlett and Molly Neuman. It will be an exciting event. So plan on attending the conference to brush up on your entreprenurial skills and to watch the live performance showcases featuring members of the Indiegrrl Women in the Arts organization, Songsalive, Females on Fire, and Rockin Moms. Conference passes are $100 and both females and males can attend. A general public day pass ticket will be sold at the doors for $10 and allows you access into the exhibit hall trade show and both live performance stage areas.
Serge Entertainment Group is the company that our non profit chose to help in promotion and event bookings. Check them out. They have a very professional and dedicated staff.

Just sending you and the Indie Girls some Redneck love.....miss you all already. This seems to be a difficult year for all of us. But we all know that music and laughter is still the best therapy.
I'm disappointed I can't make the conference. You and all the Indie Girls, many I call friends, have truly proven to me that there are good people left in the world that share to others to bring them hope.
We all know the pain Cancer brings, the suffering of the patients and families....but see Bald Headed warriors fighting and sometimes winning the battles. Never give up, and don't go down without a fight!
Kudos to you for taking up the cause. I have 2 sisters and a Mother, all with breast cancer and I am part of a huge 'sister study' trying to figure out why I have been spared so far. I appreciate all the work you are doing. Pax in D Minor, Fly

The Oaks Gets High Marks from Forbes Life Magazine!!!
The October issue of Forbes Life magazine included a feature article in their travel section about Austin and its local music scene. Writer Lorraine Cademartoni visited the live music capital and made the rounds to the normal high profile venues providing highlights of each. Antone's, Stubbs, Continental Club, Threadgill's, Broken Spoke and Gruene Hall were all mentioned but the most favorable remarks were made about The Oaks, for which we are quite proud. One of two photos from the area was of Buckwheat Zydeco playing on our big outdoor stage.
Just goes to show you that the 'new kid' does rank up there with the more renown local favorites around town. Another good reason to take that short drive out to check us out some time!
From the article:
"But my favorite is a brand new venue in the middle of nowhere, about 15 miles northeast of town. Called THE OAKS, it's a sprawling, ramshackle building of no particular distinction. But there is an outdoor stage, with table and bleacher seating, an enormous dance area on the side and $2 beers. Couples bring their children, and disparate acts like Buckwheat Zydeco and Bill Kirchen bring their instruments. As a way to pass a Saturday evening, not much can beat it."
