Indigo Inn Haunted: From 2007 to 2008, until it closed in January of 2009, at least 3 teams of Ghost Hunters visited the Inn and spent the night searching for proof that the Indigo Inn is haunted. In 2008 Kat and Bev , authors of Michigan's Haunted Travels, came to search.
You can read what they found in their book, Haunted Travels of Michigan available in book stores and on Amazon.com.
Visit their website for an Interactive Web Book experience and use the key to the secret rooms to learn more than just what you read in their new book. You can click on their myspace in our friends list too.
The historic Indigo Inn, formerly the Kimbark Inn, built in 1923 is featured behind door number 5 in their secret rooms!
Word is they recorded an EVP; a recording of a voice reputed to be a little girl who haunts the Indigo Inn.

The Indigo Inn closed in January 2009
The Indigo opened in 2007 as a bed and breakfast. The rooms were warm and inviting. This historical hotel, originally built in 1923, was a homey old english tavern. Guests enjoyed a night's lodging in one of the eight beautiful rooms where one of Marilyn's famous no-bake cookies was placed on your pillow. Each room had special touches that let you know you were enjoying a rich tradition of old world elegance like the inns above the old taverns in England. Marilyn Heeringa, the Inn Keeper traveled all over the world and brought back ideas to decorate the inn.
Special custom dinners were be designed and ordered by reservation for evenings dining in the Indigo Tea Room and Cafe which had been operating since 2005 as a cafe. The Inn was open for breakfast and Lunch Monday through Saturday.
My name is Marilyn and I was the Innkeeper at the Indigo Inn. Currently I am running my new business Detox for Healthy Living.
I enjoyed Running the Bed & Breakfast, Tea Room, Cafe and Day Spa and sad that it closed this year.
I also enjoyed being part of the The Red Hat Society. I have traveled to Africa, Egypt and around the world and visited many Bed & Breakfast and the Indigo was the brain child from those experiences. Making the Indigo Inn, and the eclectic experience offered, a great success was on top on my priority list. I enjoyed all of the guests who came to visit and the parties we had .....Add your ghost stories from your experiences there at the Indigo to our blog by sending me a message and I will post it!
Who I'd like to meet:
Guests were ghosthunters and non-ghosthunters alike. They enjoyed our pampering day spa for a massage or Ionic Detox, have tea, lunch or breakfast and fine Paramount Coffee at the Indigo Inn Tea Room and Cafe. Guests browsed the BrassWind Gallery and Gift Shop and enjoyed First Friday Music and Art Events, sang karaoke at the Down & Under Bar & Grill with Manager and Host Marjie Phillips which was located on the basement level.
Marj passed away suddenly in October of 2008 just as the Indigo Inn was gaining recognition and becoming a success through the hard work and dedication of the people involved. Myself, Marilyn, Marj and Sheree and Richard Lincoln who owned the BrassWind Gallery and Gift shop. Other friends like Deb, Nancy, Sharon of Sharonna's Creations (jewelry and gifts) and Nadine from Red Pine Crafts in Fremont all put a lot of effort into The Indigo's success.
Sadly after the ancient boiler broke, and estate issues became too complicated, The Indigo Inn and the Down and Under Bar closed it's doors.
I have continued with my Ionic Detox business under the name Detox For Healthy Living. Watch for my new website at www.detoxhealthyliving.com. Please contact me to have a Ionic Detox party or to set an appointment at one of the salons, chiropractors or spas I am partnering with in Newaygo, Grand Rapids and Coopersville or to have a private at appointment at your home or mine.
The BrassWind Gallery moved online in late October. You can still shop there for art, gifts and web design online at The BrassWind Gallery <br.
Fremont's pedestrian friendly streets still offer lovely shops, quaint historic buildings, a bike and walking path, parks and more with the 234 lakes and over 300 miles of rivers and streams in Newaygo County.
What a fantastic time we had Nov. 7th! The turnout was amazing and the food delicious. It was a true pleasure to meet your guests and share some stories. It was also a real pleasure to chat with you and the Indigo and Down and Under employees. Thank you for allowing us to be part of this!
