Indonesian Parrot Project is working to save parrots Posted at 6:23 PM Sep 16, 2008 view more
(IPP)is a non-profit organization that works in collaboration with several Indonesian non-profit organizations to help people and parrots in Indonesia through sustainable income projects, community benefit programs and education with a view to stop the trapping and trade of Indonesian parrots and to protect parrot habitat. In addition, IPP with its Indonesian partner organizations works to rescue, rehabilitate, and release individual parrots who fall victim to the wild bird trade.
EcoTours - Helping People and Parrots
IPP initiated an eco-tourism program that offers former bird trappers an opportunity to work as bird guides and porters.
Tree platforms built near the villages allow tourists to visit the rain forest canopy.
IPP ecotours allow parrot lovers and bird watching enthusiasts to directly contribute to conservation while experiencing an adventure of a lifetime.
Caring for Casualties
The villages that work with IPP haven’t just stopped catching birds, they’ve become active opponents of the bird trade. Some are even participating in the rehabilitation and re-release of trapped birds.
IPP established a rehabilitation and release center aptly named “kembali bebas” Indonesian for “return to freedom.”
