JANDEATH is a stage name of sound artist shotahirama who uses art and music as complementary tools to create rhythmic, minimal electronic music in Tokyo. Sometimes harsh, sometimes remarkably gentle but danceable, his music has a strong focus on complex and chaotic rhythm, driving percussion, and meticulous sequencing. Many of his tracks contain chaotic rhythms and close harmonies which some hear as random and noisy. True to his early techno roots, JANDEATH use a wide array of analog synths in their production, as well as analog and digital drum machines, mixers, effects units and samplers. JANDEATH have experimented in depth with development environments such as Reaktor, and Processing. He also used the Elektron Machinedrum and Monomachine in his live performances.
Most people also know him under the name shotahirama and ENG (electronoise group). It is a group that are making concrete drone sounds with their free-improv expression and the ideas from "laptop" "noise" and "Art". Inspired by Dada and Bauhaus. And he also founded the NIkO Label (Edition NIkO), a non-profit label cooperation for electronic music based in Tokyo.
your show sounds awesome. i love technoid and experimental electronics. i'd love to come, but alas, i'm on the other side of the world and probably won't return to Tokyo until late next year.
Stay in touch, however, i'd love to check you out in the future!
