| About Industry Of Lies |
|
It all started back in early 2003, when two budding musicians from Guildford, England began a search for other musicians to start up a metal band.
These two musicians were Ashley Cleaver, (a delivery driver for a small sandwich business) and Richard Harmes (a supermarket assistant for Tesco).
They contacted each other through friends of friends and met for the first time in a studio in Guildford, where they jammed for three hours with just guitar and vocals. They liked each others attitudes and style right from the start and went forth to find more members to complete the line-up.
Ashley contacted a couple of people in a band he previously auditioned for. This was to be Chris Mason on bass and Joe Butterworth on drums. The two were both studying at a contemporary music college where the band they were trying to form had fallen through. With this, Ashley introduced them to Rich and the four started playing together immediately
Band practice was every Thursday evening and the four piece churned out heavy riffs, hardcore screaming and thrash drums right the way through the night.
It did however become clear that the music they were writing needed a second guitarist. And without further ado, Joe brought a friend of his from college to practice. He went by the name of Shaun O’Reiley and he was to be the second guitarist.
Band practices became more and more intense, but sadly, disagreements arose between the band and Joe and with regret, the four asked him to leave.
This now meant that Chris was to put down the bass and pull up a stool at the drums. Happy with his instrument change Chris called up a friend of his who’s boyfriend was looking for a band. This was to be Colin Deverill, a punk influenced guitarist/ plasterer from Addlestone. He turned up, jammed his tits off, impressed the band, and became a full time member of the Industry of Lies.
