So many. Pretty much any form of playing outside that doesn't involve motors . . . running, road biking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, backpacking, ultimate frisbee. Ecology and environmental responsibility. Food . . . gardening, cooking, baking (cookies and bread), chocolate, coffee (both of the latter preferred fair trade and dark). Guitar, mostly for my own amusement. Some puttering with crafty things . . . I've been crocheting the same sweater for 6 years . . . one sleeve to go. Words + puzzles + games = Scrabble! Scandinavia . . . jag talar svenska. Reading . . . just kidding, I don't do that for fun anymore, but I would like to. I also like power tools. And fire. Don't worry - I use both responsibly and in moderation.
Music
I'm fairly pop culture stupid. I have been accused of living under a rock and being dead for my lack of awareness in this area. But I like folk and classic rock the best, and a few other oddities here and there. My favorite music source in recent years has been the Morning Show on Minnesota Public Radio. Delightfully random.
Movies
Cold Comfort Farm - the perfect feel-good movie for quirky people - wry humor and not too sweet. And of course, The Princess Bride. "You keep using that word . . . I do not think it means what you think it means." It's not a movie, but the musical "Wicked" is worth a mention, too.
Television
Almost never. There's always something I would rather be doing and probably several things I ought to be doing.
Books
Anything by Wendell Berry. First favorite book, Go Dog Go. All-time favorite and most often read . . . The Narnia Chronicles. Other . . . The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Ronia the Robber's Daughter, James and the Giant Peach, Charlotte's Web, The Ox-Cart Man, The Lorax, Anne of Green Gables, The Princess and the Goblin, Redwall, Les Miserables, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Small Wonder, Blue Like Jazz. Poetry . . . Edna St. Vincent Millay.
Heroes
Wendell Berry, Wangari Maathai, my sister Kelley, and anyone else who works for something greater than themselves out of love.

"And that's when you knew this world can't be saved, only discovered." - Dar Williams -----------------------
I actually think that living well requires some of both. I'm in limbo between grad school and goodness-knows-what, trying to make the best of things and to strike a healthy balance between striving for change and letting be. It is because I love life - people and the natural world - that I am saddened and angered by how much is wrong, and I believe that as children of the Kingdom of God we are to work toward wholeness in all that we do. This is fearfully daunting considering how much we are up against, including our own frail and contradictory selves. But we belong to an amazing God who loves us and gives us good things - if only we would wake up and gratefully receive the beauty all around us. The only way to survive staring down and wrestling the darkness is to take in as much light as you can get. So I try to work hard, play hard, eat well, sleep enough, soak in the spring afternoon sunlight, treasure friendships, worship, pray, and take joy in both everyday simplicity and crazy adventures. Goodness knows I stall or get derailed sometimes. There is always more to learn. Live into the questions . . . seek to serve the purpose for which you are created, and enjoy the journey . . . that is success. --------------------------------------

"The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it." - John 1:5 -------------------------------
"He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8
word on the street is you're training for the chi marathon! GO FOR IT!!!! i blame it for my endurance running addiction :) i'm not running it this year (trying to hit all 50 states and that would throw me off the mark), but if you want a running buddy some weekend morning this summer, i'm there!!
I saw Wicked during its pre-Broadway run in San Francisco. Actually the night we were supposed to go, Kristin Chenoweth was injured. She'd fallen in rehearsal that afternoon. The understudy wasn't ready, so the show was cancelled that night. We stayed an extra day and saw the understudy as Glinda the next night.
hahaha! that damn reunion story...i'll have to see if i can dig it up whence it's hiding. (word nerd. sorry.)
how are you ingrid??
this summer is already pretty crazy for me...i think i have two weekends that are semi-open (no joke.)
but yes, yes.
we should try and get together!!
