Influences
Too many to mention but defintely the great musicians I'm lucky enough to work with.
How about the music I've enjoyed listening to over the years - Solas, Silly Wizard, Buena Vista Social Club, Ludovico Enaudi, Dolly Parton, DeDannan, Jamiriquoi, Karen Casey, Bee Jees, Heidi Talbot, Shawn Colvin, Alison Krauss, Blazin Fiddles, Altan
This bonnie place I'm from certainly plays a part too.
I'm Ingrid Henderson and I live in the beautiful village of Glenfinnan, at the head of Loch Shiel, in the Scottish Highlands. I'm a clarsach player and pianist although I have been known to sing and scratch at a fiddle if the notion takes me or the liquor is strong!
Being born and brought up in Lochaber I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by traditional music since birth. With early guidance from music tutors such as Savourna Stevenson, Angus Grant and strong family influences, I pretty much fell into a musical career and began performing, touring and recording at a young age. Winning the 1990 BBC Radio 2 Young Tradition Award at thirteen accelerated this and resulted in world-wide performance opportunities including the Vancouver Folk Festival, Lorient, Brittany and Dranouter, Belgium.
Solo work turned into more collaborative projects firstly working with my brother Allan, (Blazin’ Fiddles) to produce a number of albums and in more recent times with Gaelic band ‘Cliar’, and in a duo with Skye-based singer Anne Martin. I've also been very fortunate to perform live and record with many other great artists such as Margaret Stewart, Julie Fowlis, Altan, Iain MacDonald, Daimh and Mary Smith to name but a few.
As well as performance and recording work I'm involved in other aspects of the Gaelic arts field such as composing for television, musical direction and developing youth arts provision within my home area of Lochaber. I also enjoy teaching and as well as Feisean work I've done stints at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music and the Irish World Music Centre.
After many years working on albums with other bands and musicians I decided to go it alone (well not completely!) and released 'The Little Beauty” in 2005 on our own Old Laundry Productions record label. Co-produced with Donald Shaw (Capercaillie) I was delighted to be joined by my old Lochaber chums brother Allan, hubby Iain MacFarlane, Ross Martin and James MacIntosh.
“As though it were needed, here is proof that Ingrid is a musician of quite outstanding calibre, a virtuoso in terms of sensibility….” Peter Urpeth
“ Ingrid has compiled an understated but beautiful album which impresses through its gentleness and simplicity. Her delicate harp playing is the defining characteristic..”

More recently Iain and I have developed the Old Laundry Productions empire by building a fabby recording studio in bonnie Glenfinnan. Opened in 2007 it's already been responsible for various new projects including a TV theme tune and programme, 'Bheir Dhomh am Fonn', Julie Fowlis & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's album 'Dual' and Duncan Chisholm's album, 'Farrar'.
