Ink Project are an original London-based group consisting of Melanie Dymond, Jeremy Lloyd and Colin Webster. Whilst hard to define, their music aims to join the dots and take the best elements of experimental pop music, electronica, epic trip hop/leftfield, classic soul, future funk, smokey blues, indie, acoustic, dub and jazz, morphing it into their very own unique sound.
Mel lives in North London and is the vocalist and one of the songwriters in Ink Project.
Her musical influences reach far and wide and her sultry tones, catchy vocal hooks and introspective lyrics lend a distictively soulful edge to the group's sound.
Jez lives in South London and is the other songwriter and producer in the group. He programmes the beats, deep sub-basses, FX and samples as well as playing the guitar and keyboard. After starting out playing guitar in several rock and metal bands, the odd bit of jazz flute from time-to-time as well as djying house, breaks and techno, he soon developed a genuine love for song-based dance music and wanted to start a new and original music project of his own.
So after a random drunken encounter with Mel at a party in South London in the summer of 2005 and a jam session with jazz sax/flute-meister extraordinaire Colin Webster several weeks later, Ink Project's own unique sound was born! Since then, the group have recorded over 13 tracks together and taken the project live throughout the UK playing a series of gigs at well-known top London venues including The Dogstar in Brixton, The Big Chill Bar in Kings X, Cargo in Shoreditch as well as The Magnet in Liverpool and Timbuktu in Bristol.
