Interests

  • General

My next van...whenever that is? Charity shops, jumble sales, roadtrips, my tattoo's (thanks to the talent, generosity, longheld and valued friendship of Xed Le Head), bootfairs, bonfires, spontaneity, live performance, arts and culture, camping around, making and creating, my workshop/studio. Leigh Bowery, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, david La Chappelle and a lot of artstylefashion. Going out and dancing. Yoga, but only in a class. I get hopelessly distracted at home. Small flat. Many things. I like to listen to Radio 4 (have done for years...HATE Radio 1 and that type of thing). I would also like to add that I AM NOT A GOD FEARING WOMAN...just so you understand that, and don't waste your time writing me an email.
  • Music

Ali Farke Toure & Toumani Diabate playing Hawa Dolo from the In the Heart of the Moon album...bliss,Tom Waits, The Dead Brothers, The Bays, Tango, Country & Western, Gotan Project, Calexico, Cinematic Orchestra soundtracks, and anything I can dance to, external nocturnal music and more and more...
  • Movies

Love to go to the cinema. Love anything trippy, cultish, camp, wierd, beautiful. Stormy Weather and old black and white musicals in general, Breakfast on Pluto, Piano Tuner of Earthquakes, Howls Moving Castle, Hedwig and the angry Inch, Tidelands, Cremaster 3 (would like to see the rest of Matthew Barney's series), The saddest music in all the World (I think that's the correct title. Mad, wierd b/w but recent film). There's an independent cinema in my town and I mostly enjoy the less mainstream independent stuff, and black and white Hollywood classics, and ALL MUSICALS. Most things by Pedro Almodavar, Quay Brothers, Jim Jarmusch, Cohen Brothers, Russ Meyer, John Waters, the documentary about 'The Cockettes'. A wild troupe of mainly gay cross dressing performers, living on Welfare in a communial squat, covered in slap and glitter, dropping quantites of acid, dressing in wild 40's clothes in a glam rock style and putting on extraordinarily camp shows at the Palace Cinema in San Francisco in the 70's. Divine and Sylvester both put in an appearance, and of course John Waters popped up...the little minx!

    PAH!!!
  • Books

Tom Robbins (all of his, but Jitterbug Perfume is favourite), Angela Carter (Nights at the Circus), Jeanette Winterson, biographies and auto biogs of artists, writers, fashion designers. Donna Tartt-'The Little Friend', and Infinite Variety - 'The Life and Legend of the Marchesa Casati'. Moomintrolls, Nurse Matilda by Christina Brand, any well written magic realism...

My mother Jane, who had the hardest, and last, year of her life in 2008. 6/5/32 to 16/12/08.

Blurbs

About me:

After stepping back out of the limelight for the best part (WAS there a best part?) of 2008, I debuted in 2009 as 'Vi' (see the 3rd slideshow), along with 'Hilda' and 'Eileen' at 'The School Of Life' sermon on Seduction, delivered by Sam Roddick, at 11.30am at the Conway Hall, London 15th February 2009. Vi, Hilda, Eileen and a bevy of other tealadies stimulated the palate of the congregation with Cock Cakes and Boob Jellies. Fanny joined us for heavy petting. See www.theschooloflife.com for further enlightenment. In accord with my previously uninterrupted trajectory, I used this event as a launch pad to resume my former occupation as general all round entertaining donner of persona's and creator of character and costume. Please see slideshow NO 1 to aquaint yourself with previous triumphs of enthusiasm, make up and inspiration over actual training and fear of foolishness. The Adams Atlas slideshow below is photographed by most ably and inspirationly by Adam Piggott (assisted by the lovely Jayne) both also talented members of the Bohemia Ukulele Band, and The Lucky Ones. More to come soon from this team! Have had to postpone Midsummers Day shoot due to dodgy neck and arm thing. On another note, we are all basking in the glory of the first Shadey Pines gig on the 14th June. More pics to follow JULY 4th. GAY SHAME, presented by Duckie, at Brixton Academy was full, hot, exhausting and FABULOUS! Millinery Misfits kept going right til the end, 4am, due to the amazing stamina of the Sartorial Eventists. Miss Tam Fitz (Tam Lush) and Miss Hattie Fitz ( myself), were left panting in their wake... We are keen to see Daniella's photographs! JULY 11th. ST LEONARDS FESTIVAL 2009 Romany Peg had a fairly last minute change of wagon, but adapted well to the yellow VW camper provided. Rhubarb, her horse, christened it Custard.Despite the sky being a little overcast, it was a really well and was the most noticably mixed event, on every level, to date. Vi and Hilda's Cakehole went down a wow at the Starlight Charity Fundraiser. Hosts and guests were fabulous and generous and we had a whale of a time...especially on the slide! Thank you to all involved... 23RD SEPTEMBER- 14TH OCTOBER 2009 Dragon Bar, George Street, Hastings. Linda King - Making and Exhibition of Myself - Photographs by Adam Piggott (see slideshows for clue). Lovely opening night! Thanks to all... KIMONO SHOW AT THE BEACON 25TH - 26TH SEPTEMBER 2009 Curated by Judy Dewsbery and myself. Including textile and paper work by ourselves and local people. Special installation happened on the evening of the 25th. Judy and Dora and David made paper kimonos, Julian hung them on big bamboo crosses, and I made paper candle lanterns to light them. Beautiful...Judy and I wore our kimono's...see Crouching Tiger Hidden Drag Queen album, yet MORE extraordinary photographs were taken by Adam Piggott... who also took the new album of photo's 'Fairytale Wedding' in the garden of my new (but yet to be moved into) house in Ore, just up the hill from my current address. I hope to move in the spring of 2010, and am currently fully absorbed in project managing and labouring to achieve the renovation of this 1957 chalet bungalow. It's a lot of work, but we'll get there. The garden is a great space, and the photo's were mainly taken in an abandoned metal water tank.

ADAMS ATLAS PHOTOSHOOT

A shipping container full of costume, a stepladder, a few hours, Adam, Jayne and me... This is what happens!

Fairytale Wedding

Titania Ophelia Amphibea, kissing toads, kissing frogs

Who I'd like to meet:

myself coming back...oh enough of that nonsense! SO below is my slide show of Vi, Hilda and Eileen chirruping along at the Best Budgie Show in Haggerston, Hackney on 10th May 2008. We had a smashing day in me Motent and sold plenty of custom made budgeritarts! To those who came and saw us, especially the Pirates with Parrots,...you were delightful! and thank you...

Cindy Sherman, Grayson Perry, John Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, (De)Ed Burra, Saudek, Helmut Newton, David La Chappelle, the Quay Brothers, Pedro Almodovar, Alejandro Jodorowsky and the tall handsome young man who came up to me in the Loose Tea Party marquee in the 24 hour field at Bestival, kissed me on the lips, told me I was beautiful...then vanished out of the tent. I was too overcome to give chase...imagine!? Also anyone who gets excited by words, music, art, film, imagery, beauty, vision, costume, imagination and the human spirit at it's most heightened and best. People who love what they do, and are happy to express themselves using all/some of the above. A Good chap...
