   InKY Reading Series's Blurbs
About me:

The InKY Reading Series is a monthly literary and music event held on the second Friday of the month at the Rudyard Kipling in Louisville, Kentucky.

InKY (like Rorschach? like the smudgy blots southpaws get when they write?) is grounded in the Kentuckiana region, that weird space where the South and Midwest collide, where voices are tinged with bourbon and Pabst Blue Ribbon, and where strip malls are just as sacred as coal mines.

Our mission is to promote excellent literature through live performances by established and emerging writers from the Kentuckiana region and beyond. We showcase accomplished, published career poets and writers as well as up-and-coming talent through an ecumenical approach to style, genre, and affiliation. We're also proud to showcase Louisville-area independent musicians, and are always looking for performers to feature on our stage.

Who I'd like to meet:
Excellent writers and musicians who are looking for a stage and fans who like to watch.

IT TAKES TIME

by: Trevor Claiborn

The best things in life don’t come fast or free,

But sometimes my impatience makes me cheat.

Though I know I’m wrong, trying to rush things along,

I get mad when outcomes are incomplete.

The purpose I serve is much more than my own,

And Nature’s clock ticks much slower than mine.

I can gripe and pout or just wait the thing out,

For the Most High works on It’s own time.

I can have love, prosperity, and peace

And all the things that make it joyful to live.

Sometimes money can’t pay for those treasures—

Only my patience and my willingness to give.

We are all farmers of the crops of our destiny,

Semi-conscious of the psychological seeds we sow.

So to yield the best return, we must learn

To give things time and let them grow.

THE HOPE OF TOMMORROW
BY: TREVOR CLAIBORN

I can’t take back what I’ve done in the past
Nor can I retaliate on all that’s been done to me,
At best I can learn from experiences I’ve had
Shake the chains of regret and be free,

The future has its own set of tests and trials
So why dwell upon yesterdays woes,
My road only changes if I’m willing to change it
The door of opportunity is never closed.

I must free up my psychological arms
To make space for better things to come
I should dispose of the junk from the past
And seek the source where all natural treasures come from.

We are the wardens of the prison in our minds
Condemned by guilt, regret and sorrow,
But I stay at peace, when I learn to release-
Yesterday, and appreciate the hope of tomorrow!

LIGHTER NOTE
BY: TREVOR CLAIBORN

This life of mine, is like the hands of time;
Which every tick brings me closer to my fait,
I can live and accept it or fight and reject it
Ride freely or carry extra weight.

If the minds of man can overstand the bigger plan
We’d come to see there’s no reason to worry
What’s to come has been, every second begins
A new chapter so there’s no need to hurry
With the good comes bad, with the happy comes sad
We can’t recognize one without the other
And the truth I believe, doesn’t conquer or deceive
Or have me go to war with my brother.

I believe in the power of love, the power to rise above
The limits that man has assembled
The reward for my salvation, is no heavenly destination
Just closer to the force for which mountains have trembled
My existence is as a pixel, on the big screen of life
Yet through it I am the whole show
If balance is my plight, I must cast this light
Through this me person that I’ve come to know.

W.a.n.d.a. P. is an acronym for We Are No Different As People. The main characters Hemo, the red blood cell, Blanco, the white blood cell, Eyish, the nerve cell, Skinner, the skin cell and Blubb, the virus are all cells in the body of Wanda P. Jones. The cells have found themselves in troubling times in the body of Wanda P, similar to those on earth that we are experiencing at the moment. The characters are representative of different races and nations of humans here on earth. Because of personel agendas and devious conspiricies being carried out by a few cells at the expense of many of the cells in the body of Wanda P, they have all found themselves involved in a great conflict that threatens every cell in the bodys existance. Wanda P is a (social satire) that is sure to make the reader laugh at the funny characters and to those who read deeper into the serious religious, racial and political undertones, it will evoke some thought about the state of humanity and how each of us has a role big or small, and none is more important than the other for the survival of all...

DEATH IS NOT THE ENEMY

by TREVOR CLAIBORN

DEATH IS NOT THE ENEMY, IT'S AS NATURAL AS BIRTH

BOTH ARE A PROCESS IN OUR CYCLES ON EARTH

WE WASTE SO MUCH LIFE, TRYIN' TO HALT OUR DEMISE

THE DEATH OF CATERPILLARS MAKES LIFE FOR BUTTERFLIES

OUR BODIES ARE JUST SHELTERS, FOR THE ENERGY WITHIN

IF THERE'S NO REAL BEGINNING, HOW CAN THERE BE AN END?

TIME IS JUST A MARKER FOR MOMENTS AND EVENTS

THAT KEEPS OUR MINDS TRAPPED BEHIND AND INVISIBLE FENCE

SO WE PUT OUR FAITH IN MAN, WITH THE HOPES OF STAYIN' ALIVE

IN RETURN, HE CONTROLS, NOW OUR SOULS NO LONGER THRIVE

PREACHERS AND PIMPS, THE SINNERS AND SAINTS WILL ALL HAVE SIMILAR FAITS

AND IT'S NOT THE FIRE IN HELLS EMPIRE, OR FLYIN' THROUGH PEARLY GATES

JUST LIKE THE TREES, THE BIRDS AND THE BEES, WE'RE ONE WITH ALL THAT EXISTS

THE ILLUSIONS WE'RE SOLD, LIKE MONEY AND GOLD, MAKE IT HARD TO ENJOY NATURAL BLISS

HOW CAN WE PREPARE FOR WHAT WE DON'T CONTROL, LIKE OUR TIME AND REASON FOR DEATH

LOVE WHILE YOU LIVE, IF YOU HAVE THEN GIVE, AND BE THANKFUL FOR EVERY BREATH!!!
