Crikey is that the time ! Is it really ten years ago that In Like Flynn were playing regularly ? Well actually no, it isn't. It's about 8, but following the usual indulgence that afflicts all young rock bands, you know sex, drugs, the offer of steady and secure jobs that pay well, In Like Flynn are back ! A lot has changed while we've been away, decimalisation, the invasion of our celtic land by the Romans, the discovery of fire, but so much has stayed the same. For instance the energy, enthusiasm and excitement that is the trademark of an In Like Flynn gig.
The "Flynn's" always seemed to be a band that was on the verge of being discovered. Maybe we didn't play enough gigs. Maybe we didn't take it seriously enough. Maybe the commitment wasn't there .... though there was about a dozen of them when we supported the Irish soul stars at the Dome in Birmingham one fabulous Friday night. Oh yes, we can tone down the set if necessary, you should hear our acoustic version of Ace of Spades, it'll move you to poker!
The band have had several line-ups in the past and at one stage went through more guitarists than Spinal Tap had drummers, though to be fair. we're not sure if any of our guitarists ever spontaneously combusted. One thing remained consistent though. The energy, power and passion for the music that guaranteed a classic night out. Loyal fans from the era still recall the intimate atmosphere of a Flynn show that mixed original favourites such as Sullenbode, Gross Morose, Pain of Growing with carefully chosen covers such as She's Not There and Take it to the Bridge. oh and it was loud too!
The current line-up is arguably the classic one the fans remember. Tim, George, Clive & Del are well known to Shropshire music fans and their sound ahs been given extra zip by the recruitment of Keith in the rythym section. The band are working on a new album for release in 2007 and hopefully our favourite MySpace readers will have a sneak preview soon. Thoguh to be fair, if you made the Haygate gig in September then a couple of our offerings got their debut airings there. In the meantime to wet the appetites of new friends and, as nostalgic memories for our old ones, a few favourites from the 1994 Going Down album are listed for your listening pleasure.
The future, as ever, is ahead of us and its as rosy as the cheeks of a marathon runner on a winter's day. There is genuine excitement that the new songs can take the Flynn's to a higher level and proves the band still have relevance, still have energy. The determination and commitment from the band is there. The music is ready. All we need know is you. See you out there .... oh and please get in touch. You'll have heard us by now, it's only fair we hear from you!
