The Machine is entirely self sufficient, once it is up and running it will continue to broadcast its randomly generated codes without further human interaction.
The Interstellar Noise Machine was originally created as part of a confidential NASA project geared at communicating with life on other worlds using methods other than standard human languages. The project was scrapped by NASA very shortly after its alleged creation as it required an abnormally large budget to maintain and showed little chance of success. The Machine itself was scheduled for immediate destruction following the projects termination but supposedly dissapeared moments before the demolition crew arrived. Although much speculation exists about the INM, NASA denies any accusations that this project ever existed in any form. Most think NASA's denial is simply to avoid excessive questioning and embarrassment due to INM's astronomical budgetary demands and massive overall failure. A small group, however, hold the theory that The Machine's mysterious dissapearance is proof that the project was in fact a huge success. Although there is no documentaion that the project ever existed, odd transmissions from an unidentifiable source continue to be discovered by amatuer scientists each year leading many to wonder if it is the elusive INM or something else. . .
