Inside Out was born in 1995 from the continued musical collaboration between guitarist singer songwriter Jon S Williams and drummer songwriter Kim Thomas. They had played in Haunted Stage for the previous 3 years and wished to keep their original, rhythmic, organic, political and socially observant approach to music going. Violinist Ro Packer was a friend of Jon’s from University days, and she and Jon worked easily together, further developing their craft by doing acoustic shows as a duo. Highlights for Inside Out were as follows. Having 2 songs included on the ‘Unplugged’ La Trobe University compilation CD, their prize for being finalists in the campus battle of the bands. Releasing their own 4 track cassette at the Port Fairy Folk Festival. Receiving a glowing review in Rolling Stone describing ‘Not the worst thing’ (written by Jon and Kim) as “a fiercely strummed power-pop romp which rivals the Mekons and Violent Femmes at their own games”.
