Insight Arts is a contemporary arts organization dedicated to increasing access to cultural work that supports progressive social change. Our unique organizational model allows us to engage in community based, regional and national work.
We organize our work around three core values:
1) Access to information, education and art is a basic human right.
2) Meaningful social change is dependent on the creation of cooperative social and political structures.
3) Time for contemplation and analysis is crucial to community and individual empowerment.
These values have facilitated the development of an organization with three main areas of cultural work:
a. offering free arts education classes to youth and adults
b. presenting regular performance, exhibitions and other special events related to our core values and
c. providing rehearsal space and administrative support for a wide variety of performance collectives and artist projects
SUPPORTERS
As we struggle for a world, in which, all people have access to safe water, adequate food, adequate housing, the right to control their own bodies, the right to define their own gender and sexuality, the right to fair employment, and the right to political self determination; we must remember the basic human right to live in a world, in which, all people have access to art, time for creativity, recreation, study and reflection. To this end we applaud all those who have and/or continue to financially support the work of Insight Arts.
FUNDING PHILOSOPHY
As an organization dedicated to social justice we will not allow any funder to drive the nature of our work. We critically discuss all funding sources that we apply for and will return funding to foundations and corporations that ask us to compromise our belief in the basic human rights of all individuals. Additionally, Insight Arts opposes all forms of censorship and will not apply for any government funding that explicitly or implicitly asks us to control the content or the form of artists/intellectuals.
