Writing, celebrity culture, scrounging through the thrift store for good books, "Survivor," finding great restaurants, racing my hubby through Sudoku puzzles, planning vacations and sometimes even taking them, commiserating with my friends, reading trashy magazines for "research purposes," and of course being the best mother my kids have ever had. I'm fascinated by all aspects of Japanese culture and always have been. I take my mommy work seriously, hate the term "helicopter parent" (since when did paying attention to your kid's life become a bad thing?) and try to do my best in all aspects of parenting-- which means turning out kids who are honest and compassionate human beings.
Music
I came of age in the early '90s, which despite what teenagers now seem to want to believe, was a dismal period for music. So I like music from the '70s and the stuff that's been all over the radio for the past five years. I embarrass my oldest child by singing along to the radio... with feeling.
Movies
Anything by Paul Thomas Anderson-- Boogie Nights and Magnolia in particular. Almost Famous, American Beauty, The Pursuit of Happyness, Pan's Labyrinth, Sideways, About a Boy, Brokeback Mountain, and even Jeanne Dielman. And yes, I admit it-- I loved Titanic.
Television
Survivor, Lost, Cops, Trading Spouses, Supernanny, Studio B with Shepard Smith, Dateline: To Catch a Predator. And any of those specials featuring that family in Arkansas that has 17 kids. That's the size of my son's kindergarten class!!
Books
This section will take way more time than I have tonight. Coming Soon.
Heroes
"Heroes" is too big a word for most people who aren't Marvel characters. I admire Chris Gardner (the Pursuit of Happyness guy) for his positive attitude and ambition, Jennifer Garner for her ability to combine real motherhood with an impressive career. I admire the determination and drive Sylvia Plath had, although I have no intention of taking any other cues from her. And I admire a lot of people who are in my life that no one has ever heard of, and who probably don't have any idea how impressed I am with them.
First novel, "In Stereo Where Available," now available from Medallion Press. Second novel coming in 2009, and several more underway. Would like to get an agent one of these days.

Becky Anderson, author is now in libraries in Winnipeg! Wahoo!
About me: I'm the author of IN STEREO WHERE AVAILABLE, a new novel from Medallion Press now available at Amazon, Borders, and all those other bookish sorts of places. It's a funny, smart, not-too-fluffy story about two sisters who have been unlucky in love-- and when one goes on a crazy reality show, it sends the other's life into chaos. If you enjoy reality TV, you will laugh at the familiar; and if you detest reality TV, you will laugh just as hard at the satire. Many moments are laugh-out-loud funny, some are deep, and the end will make you feel optimistic about love.
I am still waiting for the glamorous writer's life to kick in and a nice British nanny to drop by and offer to change the baby's diapers. Meanwhile, I blog at instereowhereavailable.blogspot.com and ilovestudiob.blogspot.com.
Other than writing and mothering, I care about people. A lot. I read stories in the news or hear them from my friends and they move me deeply. I love hearing about others' lives and finding common ground. I have found that nearly every life is full of fascinating stories.
THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION: Can a regular mom from a small publishing house, through sheer will, word of mouth, and the support of her readers, astonish everyone by turning her little novel into a New York Times bestseller? My goal for 2008: I want to be The Little Writer Who Could!
