In Sterio was formed in January of 2007, and has since been performing at high schools, colleges & flute festivals throughout the country promoting awareness of instrumental music. In Sterio recently performed at the 2008 NFA Convention in Kansas City and was chosen to perform at the 2009 NFA Convention in New York City as well.
Flutists & Miyazawa Artists Shivhan Dohse and Erica Peel share a unique vision of bringing the innovative and distinctive sounds of In Sterio to listeners of all musical preferences. In Sterio's repertoire is quite diverse, including not only Classical styles, but Irish/Folk, Funk, R&B, Rock, World and New Age music. They are always striving to find contemporary sounds that are both compelling and entertaining. The long term vision is to collaborate with artists in every musical genre, expanding the minds of performers and listeners, and challenging the conventional ideas of the flute sound and repertoire.
Flutist Erica Peel grew up in a musical family in New Jersey. She received her bachelor of music degree at the University of Miami in Florida where she studied with the late Christine Nield-Capote. During her college years, Erica won several competitions including the University’s Concerto Competition, the Florida Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition in both 2000 and 2003 and the South Florida Musician’s Association Competition. In 2003, Erica moved to Santa Barbara, CA to study with Jill Felber of ZAWA! and became the principle flutist of The Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles. The following year, at the age of 22, she won the Associate Principal Flute/Piccolo position with the Honolulu Symphony and spent three years there. Erica has also performed with the Florida Philharmonic, the Music in the Mountains Festival, the Omaha Symphony and the Chicago Symphony. She most recently won the 2008 NFA Orchestral Audition Competition and the 2009 FSK Young Artist Competition. Erica is delighted to play a Miyazawa 14K gold flute and a Hammig Piccolo.
Shivhan Dohse is an active freelance flute/piccolo player in the Iowa City area and can be heard in performance with the Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra as well as the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra. However, her heart lies most with Irish, Folk and Funk music which inspired her to study abroad in Ireland. Shivhan has completed her Bachelor of Music degree (2004) at the University of Northern Iowa studying under Dr. Angeleita Floyd, as well as her Master's of Music Degree (2007) from the University of California Santa Barbara studying under Jill Felber. While in Santa Barbara, Shivhan taught undergraduate flute lessons, directed the flute choir, co-ordinated the UCSB 'Flute Focus' Summer program as Jill Felber's Teaching Assistant and performed with her Irish band, 'DannsAir'. Shivhan recently traveled to Barcelona in May 2008 with 'DannsAir,' following the release of their newest CD, 'Rias Medias.' To listen and/or buy, please visit Itunes and search 'Dannsair Rias Medias.' Shivhan plays flute on all but the title track... enjoy! Shivhan is currently the National Marketing & Sales Director for Miyazawa, USA and has played a Miyazawa since 1998.
