Dix ans d’existence au compteur, plusieurs nominations aux Qwartz (Electronic Music Awards), une pléthore d’albums, de remixes et de lives et toujours cette même énergie sismique.

Cette indépendance caractéristique. Cette évocation caustique de notre société.

Cette ouverture d’esprit, hybride et apatride.

Tandem culte parisien de l’électro breakbeat à vocation drum and bass, Interlope revendique haut et fort son statut d’électron libre. Sa liberté de ton, de son et par dessus tout d’improvisation…

Bref rappel des faits.

Paris. Milieu des années 90.

Graphistes, sculpteurs, stylistes et musiciens, entres autres intervenants du spectacle, investissent un hôpital désaffecté de la capitale. Transformé en studios de répétitions et ateliers d’artistes, L'Hôpital Ephémère (ancêtre des actuels Usines Ephémères et Point Ephémère), compte quelques bombes à retardement dont on parle encore aujourd’hui (FFF, Oneyed Jack, Human Spirit, Sriracha, Lofofora, Lt No, etc.).
Rimshot est alors batteur au sein de LT No et Dragongaz, guitariste d’Ultra Orange. En parallèle, ce dernier signe ses premiers beatz hard tek sur le zéro zéro du label Chronobrain (aux côtés de Jeff / Spiral Tribe), flirte avec le label hardcore, Notek Rec et caresse le big beat au sein de Sounds Like Pistols. Le feeling passe entre les deux musiciens rock et un projet de musique électronique se concrétise. Interlope voit le jour en 99.
Premières free parties avec le sound system jungliste Masimas (aux côtés de Willyman, Pushy!, Krak In Dub, Mc Lox, etc.), premiers vinyles maxis signés sur Random Records et Jarring Effect… Interlope ne tarde pas à devenir le fer de lance du breakbeat underground.

Toujours là où on ne l’attend pas, le binôme électronique impose un style à part.
De Jarring Effect à Expressillon (ses deux labels de prédilection) et d’une collaboration à une autre (Oneyed Jack, Hightone, MC Jamalski, MC SK, Watkins Tudor Jones, Black Sifichi, MC Troy, Bad Joke, etc.), Interlope révise son style. Aiguise ses beatz.

Véritable rouleau compresseur de breakbeat jungle furieusement épidémique sur scène, le duo se veut expérimental et plus down tempo sur ses albums. Les manifestes s’enchainent et ne se ressemblent pas. Tantôt live, épileptiques et uptempo, à l’instar de ses sets ("Chip Jockey vol 1"), tantôt downtempo et ouverts sur d’autres sphères rythmiques ("Talk To The Beat", "Electrified" featuring moult artistes sud africains dont Sibot et MC Totally Rad, rencontrés lors de la tournée du projet "Siphon", "Petits Arrangements Entre Amis", "Reprocessed" et ses 5 remix d’Hightone ou encore "Audioactivisme" avec le guitariste d’Hightone).

Aujourd’hui, c’est avec un second volet du Chip Jockey qu’Interlope percute les bacs. Un Taser d’opus cent pour cent live, aux décharges breakbeat blindées de convulsions drum. La tension de leurs live est palpable, l’improvisation libre de leurs performances, aussi intacte qu’à leurs débuts. Prochaine étape ? Continuer de faire vibrer l’échelle de Richter ici mais aussi ailleurs. Déjà bien esquissée ces dernières années (Afrique du Sud, Canada, Etats-Unis, La Réunion, UK, Allemagne, Espagne, Tchéquie, Suisse, etc.), l’ouverture internationale du dipôle (désormais assisté de la VJette K-KI en live) ne fait que commencer.

This characteristic independence. This open-mindedness, stateless and hybrid.

With its caustic evocation of nowadays society, Interlope, cult tandem of the Parisian electro breakbeat openly drum and bass, firmly claims its status of free electron. Its freedom of tone, sound and above all, improvisation…
Brief reminder of the facts:

Paris. Mid 90's. Graphic designers, sculptors, clothes designers, comedians and musicians besiege a disused hospital of the French capital. Transformed into rehearsal studios and artists workshops, "L'Hôpital Ephémère" (ancestor of the current "Usines Ephémères" and "Point Ephémère"), gathers numerous musical time bombs (FFF, Oneyed Jack, Human Spirit, Sriracha, Lofofora, Lt No, etc.).

Rimshot is then the drummer of LT No. and Dragongaz, the guitarist of Ultra Orange. In parallel, this latter signs his first hard tek beatz on the Chronobrain label very first release, "Zero Zero" (alongside Jeff / Spiral Tribe), flirts with the hardcore label, Notek Rec, and toys with big beat within Sounds Like Pistols. The feeling flows between both rock musicians and an electronic project materializes. In 99, Interlope is founded.
First squat parties with the junglist sound system Masimas (alongside the last Willyman, Pushy!, Krak In Dub, Mc Lox, etc.), first EPs signed on Random Records and Jarring Effect, Interlope quickly becomes the underground breakbeat spearhead.

Surprising and unpredictable, the electronic duet imposes a unique style.
From Jarring Effect to Expressillon, its two labels of predilection, and from a collaboration to another (Oneyed Jack, Hightone, MC Jamalski, MC SK, Watkins Tudor Jones, Black Sifichi, MC Troy, Bad Joke, etc.), Interlope revises its style. Sharpens its beatz.

Sheer stream roller of a furiously epidemic breakbeat jungle on stage, the experimental duo is more down tempo on its albums. Manifestoes follow on from each other and are never alike. Sometimes live, epileptic and uptempo, following the example of its sets (" Chip Jockey vol 1 "), sometimes downtempo and open to other rhythmic spheres (" Talk To The Beat ", " Electrified " featuring numerous South African artists such as Sibot and MC Totally Rad, met during the "Siphon Project" tour, " Petits Arrangements Entre Amis ", "Reprocessed" and its 5 Hightone remixes, "Audioactivism" with the Hightone guitarist, etc.).
2009. Interlope crashes into the record stores with the second volume of Chip Jockey. Authentic Taser, this live album delivers a discharge of breakbeat shored up by solid drum and bass foundations. The tension of the live set is tangible and the free improvisation of the performance, as powerful as it was 10 years ago.

Next step ? Interlope is about to shake the Richter scale worldwide. Already well sketched these last years (South Africa, Canada, the United States, Reunion, UK, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Switzerland, etc.), the international invasion of the French binomial (now assisted on stage by the talented Vjay girl, K-KI) is only beginning.
