Mike Danilin – the band’s lead singer and songwriter – defines “interzona” as “intermediate state” (even though he doesn’t deny that he borrowed the original term “interzone” from David Cronenberg’s film “Naked Lunch” based on the novel by William Burroughs and on the writer’s biography). In accordance with such definition, the band’s original style is the result of a strange marriage of the opposites. On the one hand, INTERZONA is a “live” band with traditional rock line-up (drums-bass-guitar-vocals) and a pop song-structure. On the other hand, it is an “electronic” act acquiring its urban futurism as well as coldness, precision and groove in dance music. The resulting combination is a highly explosive yet intelligent music substance with carefully engineered hi-tech sound and raw energy and drive of a live act.
The music entity with the above name was created in New York in 1998. During more than 7 years of its existence, INTERZONA has played numerous gigs and participated in various festivals and fares in New York (Hammerstein Ballroom, Roxy, China Club, Tramps, CBGB, CB’s Gallery, Knitting Factory, Elbow Room, Lion’s Den, Don Hills, Kenny’s Castaways, Village Underground, South Paw, The Hook, etc) gaining local recognition and regularly playing out of town – in Boston (Middle East, Harper’s Ferry, Lynwood Bar, etc), Seattle, and Portland, as well as in Russia (Moscow and St.Petersburg) and Ukraine (Kiev) – the countries of the band members’ former residence. INTERZONA has participated in several compilations and recorded two albums with Russian lyrics; the 3rd and the most recent LP - “Secret Sessions” - is Danilin’s debut as an English lyricist.
The band members define their style as “synth-rock” or “hard-pop”. Danilin’s lyrical imagery continues “neo-romantic” poetic tradition dealing with various aspects of urban life, with a particular stress on its darker side. The familiar motif of loneliness verging with alienation is easily related to by anyone living in a modern metropolis. Having been greatly influenced by music of the 80s (particularly new wave and dark wave), impregnated by the rough energy of post-rock and industrial of the 90s, and taken its final shape against the background of laconic beauty, dance grooves and futuristic sound and beats of electronica, INTERZONA is neither nostalgic for the past nor it is striving for the future; rather, it is in constant state of transition from yesterday to tomorrow – here and now.

Dear friends, my elder bro Dima has made a page dedicated to our lo-fi studio “Happy Records” based in Kyiv, Ukraine, created for non-profit purposes. The focus of the studio work is producing indie artists we subjectively find interesting.
So please, find some time and listen to our friends’ music recorded by us at:
Check out the new banger "Secret Agent VIP" recently added to the player, it's off the Universal Mind album coming out this December. Hope you enjoy and let us know what you think, cheers! =)

Rebooted, filtered, animated, shaken, cut, pasted, shown to the dawg who barked his disapproval, and smashed with a great hammer, deconstructed and turned into Young Folks with Umbrella. Well it would be if you had not stopped html. Bad bad bad. Another newey mixes Coldplay and Kraftwerk and if that's not enough there's a new tune called Scooby Mama which moulds Fun Lovin Criminals to a Scissor Sisters. Watch out for our SeX DwArF v The Cure v Tori Amos tune which is almost ready to be unleashed.
We would also recommend the Lauryn Hill v Marvin Gaye fusion. If it don't move ya yo dead. The myspace is getting new tunes and vids regularly. So let's hear what you think from you you you. Thanks for the add and your interest it is greatly appreciate. Love and Peace. SeXDwArF. And remember...don't do genre. It's stereotype by another name.
