The group Interzone has been created in August 1997, from William Burroughs' and Brion Gysin 's readers who expressed themselves in the Memorial dedicated to him in Malcolm Humes' site, "The William Burroughs' Files". Those readers accepted my offer to send them for free plans of Brion Gysin's Dreamachine (http://www.inter-zone.org/dm.html)which I had drawn in 1981.
They sent me in return their own creations (literature, musics, graphism, etc.) around Burroughs and Gysin; we started to exchange e-mails on our respective works and decided to get organized in a net. We created sites bound together : the Interzone Ring (http://www.interpc.fr/mapage/westernlands/Interzone-links.html).
We felt ourselves as a community and then got organized to fulfill our human needs at different levels and have applied the burroughsian relational model of the Johnson Family, based upon complementarity and mutual assistance. Our slogan : "The Zone takes care of its own."(http://www.inter-zone.org/manifesto.html)
We also undertook exchanges on our respective experiments on Burroughs and Gysin's works : cut-ups, synchronicities, Third Mind, differents treatments in the frame of detoxification cures, etc., through the light of our different cultures and domains of knowledge : a part of those documents are gathered in the site Interzone Academy.

Ten years later, Interzone has more than 500 members in the whole world. We are getting organized for the production and the distribution of our works. They have been made freely, and the self-production reveals itself, thanks the technology of Internet, much less expensive than the classical means: see the catalogue on line http://www.inter-zone.org/catal1.html , and the questions we are asking ourselves to find an economical organization which respects the structure and the spirit of the group : http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Crete/9445/economy.html .
We have produced 8 tomes of an anthology "The Time of the Naguals", audio and video tapes, CD, compilations of the musics of the group, and we have an important amount of original pictures of William Burroughs and Brion Gysin, , of collages and illustrations., etc. The complete versions of the books are gathered in the site Interzone Library http://www.geocities.com/interzonelibrary/, as well as the comix, on line at http://www.geocities.com/interzonebd/
The details of the activities of the group since its start is related in the monthly reports at Information on Interzone http://www.interpc.fr/mapage/westernlands/infzone.html
The sites below contain the set of our activities during 10 years. The whole is huge and one can spend days and days to explore them all.
Thanks for visiting them. Feed backs welcome at i.aubert@interpc.fr

"...He already had two volumes of poetry, Neon Poems and Apocalypse Rose out when in 1971 City Lights published his seminal novel, Last of The Moccasins. This novel grips, gleams and glistens with his hobohemian prose-style; spinning tales of his life in and around Wichita, his road trips to and from the West Coast along the Rt. 66 Benzedrine Highway and beyond, his crazy Hipster years and the boho life of his elder sister Betty..."
I recently interviewed writer, film maker, musician and art terrorist Joe Ambrose whilst he was at home in Marrakesh. We talked about the Tsunami edition of Moshpit, his blood and sweat investigation of hardcore dancing culture, which is published in April as well as his upcoming performances in New York to promote his latest book, Chelsea Hotel Manhattan. Read it here and on the hesterGlock website.
There is an article on the current Alan Kaprow - Art as Life exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. I attended the opening reception as a guest of artist Skylar Haskard, who re-interpreted Kaprows famous Apple Shrine with John Baldessari. Read it here.
I have been traveling shotgun with singer/songwriter Kathleen Haskard across the USA. She plays the last gig on her US tour in San Francisco 2nd April at the Hotel Utah this time with a band which includes Tom Heyman (Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet, John Vanderslice, The Court and Spark and Paula Frazier) and KT White (Luce, Papa Mali,Chuck Prophet, John Mooney and Beth Waters). Jack Sargeant wrote his first book at the age of 26, and DEATHTRIPPING : THE CINEMA OF TRANSGRESSION still exists as the most exhaustive handbook on post-punk New York underground film. The subversive Soft Skull imprint have recently published its third edition. Sargeant..s interests range from underground cinema to avant garde practice, as well as extreme attitudes and actions, largely ignored histories, obscure ideologies and overlooked viewpoints. Read the Paul Hawkins interview with Jack in full on hesterglock.com
oe Ambrose's book of extreme travel writing will be launched at Waterstones, Islington Green, London N1, on November 29th at 6.30pm. Please come along.
Ambrose will r ead from the book, questions will be taken, books signed, and drinks served. Headpress, publishers of the book, are hosting a party after the Waterstones event, to which everybody's invited. More drinks, live bands, and a specially comissioned Chelsea Hotel DJ set will happen.
Chelsea Hotel Manhattan features, amongst other things, a longish previously unpublished interview with William Burroughs, a previously unpublished conversation with Allen Ginsberg, a discussion concerning the Chelsea Hotel with Gerard Malanga, an ewitness account of the night Sid was accused of killing Nancy, and an unseen interview with Stanley Bard, recently ousted from his positon running the Chelsea.
