He Is I & I Am Him

Mikz (born Mikal Gonzales) is a Canadian producer/songwriter/engineer and CEO of Bigeminy Music Group.
Mikz has already created a niche for himself in the music industry with an unabashed fortitude. Founding Bigeminy Music Group alongside young, talented songwriter Beverley Marquis.
Born on December 1, 1982 in Trinidad, Mikz’s love affair with music has spanned decades. At the age of 7, Mikz and his family moved into his uncle’s basement in St. Catharine’s, where he was exposed to an extensive collection of music ranging from soca to hip-hop to jazz. An emerging appreciation for music at such a young age led him to admire his older cousin Cliff (Point Blank), a deejay who kept his turntables in the very basement that was home to Mikz. As his cousin practiced day in and day out, Mikz fell in love with hip-hop and began to write songs at the tender age of twelve, while training classically in piano and focusing on basketball. After high school, Mikz began experimenting with rapping and beat-making, which led him to build a home studio during his university years. It was here that Mikz harbored his production skills and began to deejay for a friend, Esjay, who has opened for Nas. Elephant Man, Kardinal Official, and JD Era. Music became Mikz’s passion; he acknowledged and embraced this, dropping out of University and enrolling at Metalworks Institute in the audio engineering program. While at Metalworks, he was exposed to the production soundscape of many genres and met some of the influential people who have helped him create his soon-to-be-empire.
Mikz’s relentless work ethic asserts that the difference between innovation and imitation is imagination. His tenacious, multifaceted approach to music proves to marry the ideas of both commerce and music successfully and confidently: no pre-nup. Further cementing the fact that he has found an unyielding balance between modern-day music desires and his artistic credibility.
His first co-written single “One N Only” is included on Universal Music Canada’s Reggae Gold 2010 complication CD.
“One N Only” features Rayvon, Kobra Khan and Beverley Marquis, and production by Ali Kat.
