Into The Ocean are relatively new on the Australian music scene. Having only released their EP in April 2009, you might say this band already has an obvious future ahead of them upon first listen of this awesome release. Having embraced the online distribution model, Into The Ocean seem to have made fans from all over the place (especially internationally).
Into The Ocean can only really be described in genre terms as a post-hardcore-electronica band and that title suits them just fine for now. Ruins is a mixture of upbeat and brutal music – incorporating elements of electronica, metal, screaming and eccentric singing, this EP is truly something remarkable for a first release.
These guys seem to make their sound work, all whilst remaining virtually nonchalant throughout the entire EP with relative ease. Each track is different from the last; one moment you’re listening to a track with a pretty consistent tempo (Migration), the next you’re listening to a fast and heavily electronic driven song (And The Mountain Gave Birth To A Mouse).
This band has been described as sounding like early Enter Shikari and I tend to agree with that statement in certain ways. Although I do strongly agree that Into The Ocean pulls off the post-hardcore electronic sound a lot better than most other bands do in the same genre.
If Ruins is an indication of what is yet to come from Into The Ocean, this band has a very long and successful career ahead of themselves yet, and I can only imagine that their next (hopefully) full-length release is going to sound like.
Lachlan Malone. Joshua Roche. Rory Joy. Thomas Roche. Chris White.
With their roots still humbly planted in their home town of Toowoomba, Australian metal band Into the Ocean are quickly gaining international notoriety with the most recent fruit of their labors, EP “Ruins”.
Having already shared the stage with the likes of Misery Signals, Closure in Moscow, MXPX, The Getaway Plan, MM9, The Amity Affliction, Mourning Tide, House vs. Hurricane, and Goodnight Nurse they are quickly becoming synonymous with the best of the best in Australian alternative music.
