The history of the Interonational Union of Interpretive Dancers is shrouded in mystery It has been described as "the biggest, richest, most secretive and most powerful private force in the world-and, certainly, the most deceptively well-dressed.". Some evidence suggests that it has roots in ancient pagan traditions and that its founders were among the most influential thinkers in the West. If this is true, then certainly this tradition has been preserved throughout the centuries, as its current members include some of the most powerful spiritual, social, and political leaders in the world.

Little has been revealed to the outside world about the organization's philosophies and practices. It has been said that their underlying purpose is the maintenance of order within society--something that can only be accomplished through ritual dancing to a collection of deities, the most revered being Athena, who is believed to be the creator of dance. More practically, it is said that they believe the art of dance to be a unifying link between all of mankind-- a gesture of goodwill and brotherhood, even a manifestation of God.

The Intronational Union of Interpretive Dancers are said to hold secret meetings monthly within their places of worship. The most pivotal of these gatherings are said to be their 'dance offs,' in which members compete for dominance in the organization by demonstrating their superior dancing skills--as dance skills are equated with divinity or wisdom within the IUID.
