In Tua Nua (roughly translated from the Irish as "A New Tribe") were one of Ireland's most successful live rock groups throughout the 1980s both at home, in Europe and the US. The group was formed in 1982 with the line up Ivan O'Shea on guitar, Martin Clancy on keyboards and guitar, Paul Byrne on drums, Jack Dublin on bass, Leslie Dowdall on vocals, Steve Wickham on violin and Vinny Kilduff on pipes and whistles. The band recorded four albums, only two of which were fully released, 'Vaudeville' and 'The Long Acre', but the final album entitled 'When Night Came Down On Sunset' is now available on iTunes. The band toured extensively with U2 and Simple Minds as well as doing the club and college circuits in Europe and the US. There is a famous venue in Boston (An Tua Nua) named after them and an Irish TV show on TG4 likewise.
The band's first single 'Coming Thru' was the first ever release by U2's Mother records. The band then signed to Island records for a spell and then to Virgin, having 9 hit singles in Ireland along the way with varying degrees of success abroad. 'Take My Hand' co-written with Sinead O'Connor got Melody Maker single of the week, 'Seven Into The Sea' was a top 20 hit in Holland, 'All I Wanted' reached no. 69 in the UK singles charts while the album 'The Long Acre' stayed in the US college album charts' top 30 for 6 months.
Some members came and went but the core of the band being Leslie on vocals, writers Byrne and Clancy and multi-instrumentalist Jack Dublin all stayed together until a bitter dispute between the band and it's manager caused the break up in September 1989. Leslie, Paul and Jack got together in 2004 for a series of reunion gigs and sounded better than ever. There are rumours of a future tour but so far ... they are only rumours.

hey paul! hope that your summer was excellent. quick question/request... is there any way way that i can finally know the lyrics to the Vaudeville album? i've been going crazy for over a decade trying to figure out the lyrics to 'Love' and 'Pearl of Dreams'. thanks and i listen to the 'lost' cd at least 3 times a week...
