Sounds Like
The band have been inspired by the countless musicians in the Irish and Scottish music scene, which is awash with players at a virtuoso standard right from the ground up. As well they have a real affinity with French and Balkan music.
Inu tend to weave various traditions of folk from different countries then add a little of their own character. Mike usually lays down a mixture of rythm and counter melody while Beth weaves inbetween plucked basslines, driving drones and textural harmonies. Breda plays the Bodrhan in an almost tabla like like way that utilizes alot of beats in the style of her native county Cork. This all lays down a rich tapestry for Marick to soar over with fiery melodies. This is all topped off by the Powerfull and Emotive singing of Louise Baxter. Though they play set tunes Inu's performances have a highly improvisationary nature that ensures that no two concerts will be Identical. They rely on their rapport and connectedness to add fresh ideas on the fly
which keeps audiences and band members alike on their toes.
Inu endeavour to deliver their music with Integrety and respect for all the traditions they draw upon, and to take their listeners on a journey beyond the everyday world and hope to allow people to see through the veils of the spirit.
After all the name means spirit or high soul (from the Inuit language).
Or it could mean dog in Japanese.(we only found that out recently).
Or it almost means today in Irish (spelt Innu, Innua meaning tomorrow. Again a recent revelation to us but we quite like it).
We came together in the Spring of 2002 and have been Playing together ever since. The aim was to create a sound that was reminiscent of some of our favourite bands in the Irish music scene but also to make something a little bit different.
After travelling to festivals in Europe, meeting and playing with many fine musicians from France, Russia, Hungary, Sweden among many other places, we decided to include these elements in our set.
We live for the music and are always to found playing in many informal "sessions" all over the place as well as concerts, Ceilidhs, Weddings, Festivals and Community Events. Feel free to get in contact if you wish to book us.
We are all also involved in many other styles of music and bands and you might want to check them out.
Beth plays with loads of bands including Jennifer Crook, Babel, The Cedar and has made some appearances with the mighty Bellowhead and Eliza Carthy and Peter Gabriel.
Louise can often be heard singing jazz with Various Bands and plays in a duo with her Husband Marick. She also has a brand new Project that will be announced soon.
Mike Is now playing Bass with His new band based in the Midlands the Eaves.
Marick has several other projects including gigs with Jon Hicks and is currently working on a new band alongside Beth and Cris with Tim Petherick and Pete Gibbs of the mandibles. .
