No one would have believed in the mid-years of the twentieth century that our country was being watched keenly and closely by intelligence greater than that of the United States and yet just as mortal; That as men busied themselves with important tasks and women stood around bitching and having their periods, their various concerns were scrutinized and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinize the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. No one gave a thought to other worlds as a source of human danger. Yet across the gulf of space, intellects cool and vast and unsympathetic regarded our country with envious eyes, and slowly and surely... drew their plans against us... |
