The Hawaii scene has spawned what you see today musically, most of which, Ramyt (aka Archangel), Jason McNeal, and Akio are responsible for. From AYA, Creative Sound Hawaii, The Bassment Addicts, Direct Descendants, Sisters In Sound, the Casa Crew, and all who helped and supported the Positive Beats and IOS initiative. The clubs, Mercury, W Hotel, The Living Room before it melted down, NEXT DOOR and Lotus, they all provided opportunity for immense growth. The many globetrotting DJ's courtesy of AYA and NEXT DOOR that have helped me hone my skills, from BEHROUZ, JVM, CHRIS FORTIER, PAULO MOJO, MOSHIC, SATOSHIE TOMIE, DOC MARTIN, JOSH WINK, KING BRITT, CHARLES WEBSTER, LTJ BUKEM AND MC CONRAD, CHUCK LOVE, MARCUS WYATT, MAX GRAHAM, DJ THREE, STEVE PORTER, KASKADE, Z TRIP, DIESEL BOY, AND JOHN KELLY TO QUIVVER, ASAD RIZVI, PAUL SOUL, MV, COLETTE, OSAMU M, KOKIMURA, FRED EVERYTHING AND THE LIST GOES ON... About me:
Exposure came to VERSTRAT via Canada’s high power scene in Montreal during the late ‘90s, fueled by the intense vibes and sex charged parties at some of the most renowned niteclubs in EDM History. Late nights and later mornings at SONA and STEREO developed the foundation of what he has come to be. Relocating to Hawaii in '99 offered a new home in Honolulu’s budding scene. He joined forces with like minded individual Jason McNeal of Interpretations Of Sound (IOS). The result became a series of one off events with gigs across the island, to beginning work on production proving to be years ahead of it’s time. With DJ AKIO joining the crew, this charted the arrival of a new chapter. IOS and AYA Events partnered to complete the circle which became the next element in Hawaii's EDM revolution. It was the weekly event “FLUID” becoming the catalyst for the now infamous full moon beach parties at the base of DIAMOND HEAD in Waikiki that put Hawaii's intimate scene on the map, and rapidly gained global notoriety. His meticulous technical forte’ with sound combined with AYA’s “SPEAKEASY” parties at THE LIVING ROOM, created the best party Hawaii had ever known, honing his skills, and being mentored by the likes of Behrouz, Moshic, Jimmy Van M, Archangel, Sotoshi Tomie, Steve Porter, Pauolo Mojo, Miklos, Kokimura and more until its demise in 2005. NEXT DOOR arrived on the Hawaii front, sporting a Turbo Sound System and about 15,000 Watts, he was now at the helm of the largest system on the island. He worked with LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, DOC Martin, Diesel Boy, Josh Wink, Charles Webster, Chuck Love, King Britt, Ron Trent, Kaskade, Collette, Z Trip, Ira, Markus Wyatt, the Digi Bag crew, Chris Fortier, and many more. Lotus Sound Bar opened where he worked with Shorty, who had installed the system at STEREO in MONTREAL which ingited his fire so many years before.
2007 saw VERSTRAT traveling to cities such as Vancouver, SF, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit. Still affiliated with IOS and continuing production work, he saw new affiliations with MAKAI MUSIC, PROPAGANDA IN PARADISE. IOS began hosting monthly events in the Louisiana area which spawned invitations to play in the Texas big cities.
So far, 2008 has produced a new ally in GIANT SQUID RECORDINGS and a monthly in Omaha at BAR::415, which gained overwhelming local acceptance and an invitation to play on the acclaimed Organic Theory internet radio show. Most recently, dates landed him overseas in BELGIUM with tour stops at SPYBAR and ALCAZAR in city of MONS which dates back to the Dark Ages. Currently based in the Carolinas bewteen Charlotte and Charleston, VERSTRAT has his sights set on bringing the beach party vibe from Hawaii to the East Coast. Pool parties at Wyland's Hotel, multi-million $$ house parties, and corporate events at the most exotic locations imaginable may not be on the bill, but its all about the music and the vibe. With close ties remaining from his experience in Hawaii, and all the new support, VERSTRAT is rapidly growing a supporting cast of global stature. With the door to Europe left wide open, only time will tell what the future holds for VERSTRAT. Keep your eyes and ears open for new things to come from VERSTRAT.
