About me: We are the Iowa Backyard Croquet Federation, consisting of three backyard style croquet teams in Iowa. The Rose Capital Croquet, Beer and BBQ Club; Palmer Croquet, Dark Beer and Accoustic Motor Bike Appreciation Society; and BDL Excavating. We started out as a local group in State Center, Iowa playing among friends. Then growing to two clubs (Palmer) in 2004...making our first state championship. In 2005 two more clubs competed in the state championship (BDL and another mixed squad of central Iowa residents). The annual state championship is held each year at the State Center Rose Festival, held the 3rd weekend in June. The Rose Capital Team has won both state championships.
Our mission is simple: Provide a fun and fair atmosphere for the sport of croquet, using a standardized set of "backyard/poison" style rules. This isn't sissy elitist croquet. This is the family and friends in the backyard hitting the balls with mallets and enjoying a good brew!
The Iowa BYCF has been featured in the Des Moines Register, Juice, and on the WOI Channel 5 News, and numerous croquet web sites. We can also be found on the web at bycf.doubleb.biz
Who I'd like to meet: We'd like to meet some more good decent people across Iowa looking to have some fun and play croquet! We meet several times a year, a few times to drink and plan (mostly drinking) and also a few times to play. We'd like to get some more teams across the state...and eventually have regional playoffs, sending the top 4 squads to the State Center Rose Festival Championship. Eventually we will have an Individual State Championship, possibly held at the Iowa State Fair. If interested in joining us...contact us today!
