It started with one BOP magazine...then a TEEN BEAT ...then a BIG BOPPER ( do they even make BIG BOPPER anymore?) ....I knew from asking the local Hy-vee store in Humboldt, that new magazines came out on Wednesdays..so I would always make sure to go there EVERY Wednesday, with my allowance and get what I could afford...pretty soon I had my WHOLE room plastered...and I even went so far to organize the walls by Kid...Danny, on my side of the room, Jon, for my sister, then Jordan, Joe and Donnie on the rest of the walls...the the group ones of course....I have some pics of my room, but I look so cheesy, I am not sure they will get posted :)
Anyways...on to my VHS recordings...which I have many...Old Good Morning Americas...night-tracks....the wonderful Live in your House pay per view..my friend dubbed for me..since my mom wouldn't pay for it...but she did pay for my Kids bedding, curtains...pj's....the dolls, which i got for Christmas one year I remember...both Dannys by the way..and when I found the box a few months back of all my things...both dolls still had their shoes! I was surprised!
Why did I buy all the books, the dolls, the magazines, the posters? I guess it made me feel like I was their friend...and maybe one day they would know that. I remember writing a few letters to them...I wish I would have made copies! hahaha...maybe not..
Maybe I was the only one who did this...but I was 13..and every night when I went to bed...I would blow a kiss to the Danny poster next to me...yeah, yeah...sounds bad...but hey! I was 13 and these guys were my world...especially when you are going through Jr. High with a bunch of prissy chics who could care less about you...
I remember watching the videos over and over again...even though I have seen them before...if Mtv (yes. Mtv used to play MUSIC) had The Kids on...I was there.
Now to today...2008....20 years later...and finally I can put an exclamation point on my New Kids story. I have never been to a New Kids concert...never could afford it at 13...but I do thank my mom and my relatives for what i could get of The Kids...even though now, it was more about the guys themselves and the music, then all the shirts, dolls and books...I think the fans just wanted to be thier friends...(well, most of the fans :) ) I just can't believe that in October and November, I will get to meet the guys that were the biggest part of my teenage years...20 years!! This is the longest relationship I have had with a man ever! :)
My dream came true ....3 times!!
New Kids opener...St Paul. My FIRST New Kids show ever. Still gives me goosebumps...
I LOVE THEM MORE THEN THEY WILL EVER KNOW!! THANK YOU DANNY, FOR KANSAS CITY!!!!
