Not Sorry #5: i’ll tell you mine if you tell me yr’s

This issue could’ve been called, “The Body Issue,” because most of the writing is about my relationship and history with my body. I’ve written about being a fat person and a body-positive activist who deals with eating disorder issues while trying to apply the very messages and ideals that I hold so close to my heart to myself. You’ll find an almost too long list of ally tips co-authored by, Nikki Monster (um, if anything, get this just to have this list) as well as some fat kid fashion tips. In an attempt to make things not too incredibly heavy, there are other pieces to spice things up a little, but I don't know if it really worked ;-)

I haven’t been this excited about an issue of my zine since Not Sorry #3!

It's a whopping 76 pages, ¼-size, $3 anywhere. I'm accepting Paypal (jenny@notsorry.org) and U.S. dollars. Always always always free for friends. In person trades are sexy, internet trades are still up in the air. (Contact me if you feel like our zines compliment each other.) Distros please get in touch!

Calling all readers! Calling all Writers! Calling all comic artists!

The IPRC announces:

Zine Camp 2007!

if you've ever wanted to see your work in print,

share it with your friends, and make a difference in your own community, then Zine Camp might be for you!

what is a zine?

a zine is a small publication, almost like a magazine, but not quite. it is made by an individual, or small group of individuals , and focuses on Whatever They Want! a zine can be made with pens, paper and a photocopy machine , or can be a small edition artist book series. it can be anything you like!

Zine Camp is a four week camp that meets two days a week (tuesdays and fridays)starting July 10th at the Independent Publishing Resource Center in downtown portland.

the IPRC is a community work space, geared towards self expression and empowerment through open access to space, information, and materials necessary to put out your own projects!

Campers will be privy to all sorts of insider information on how and why to publish your own work. they'll learn the history of zines, meet and interview regional zine heroes, participate in readings, take workshops in zine construction and design, go on field trips, and will participate in The 6th Annual Portland Zine Symposium, where they will sell and trade their very own personal magazines with self publishers from around the globe!!!

You need no experience to sign up for zine camp, only the drive to create!

Founded on progressive feminist principles of size positivity and the promotion of natural body diversity, FatGirl Speaks is a show which seeks to energize, empower, uplift and celebrate women of size and our allies!

This year's theme is "Every Day is a Revolution!" To us, this means that all day, every day, each act of self-love and acceptance is a revolutionary act. Every time you defy a stereotype, or every time you willfully dare *not* to, you are being revolutionary! We want to celebrate you!

Voices of a People's History

Apr 12 2007 10:14 PM

How we see history shapes how we see the present and how we can imagine -- and work for -- a better future.

"To omit or minimize these voices of resistance is to create the idea that power only rests with those who have the guns, who possess the wealth, who own the newspapers and the television stations. I want to point out that people who seem to have no power, whether working people, people of color, or women--once they organize and protest and create movements--have a voice no government can suppress." Howard Zinn, Voices of a People's History of the United States
