though now defunct, the band IPV stood among Elmhurst's local bands as an alternative to the pop punk and thrash metal of the time. While writing still occurs during meetings between founding members A. and B-Funky, it is still uncertain as to whether a reunion will ever take place. However the music stands as a memory of a short lived but powerful band.
IPV started as a three piece band consisting of A., B-Funky, and Chris originally named Mourning Would?. A. coming from cover/party bands Woody's Band and THO, and B-Funky and Chris coming from Curbside Suburbia, which also contained soon to be IPV member Robin.
B-Funky stepped aside from his plans to be a bassist as Robin took over the role, and B-Funky in addition to writing much of the music for the band took over all principal guitar work. Jeremy was soon to follow and as a 5 piece songs began to come out of continual jam/practice sessions, and the first few shows were in place.
While the first few shows took place in up tempo party environments, tensions within the band soon showed, and a decision was made to have Chris leave the band.
With studio time already set in place the band tapped Joey Fitz, a neighbor of B-Funky's and professional musician to fill the currently vacant Percussionist spot for the recording session.
Out of this came the 4 song Proving Grounds e.p. Soon after recording was complete, auditioning for a new drummer began, and Frankie of the bands Crunch, Synikal, RockStar Experience, and more signed on.
New songs were written with Frankie's harder sensibilities in mind, as well as some more uptempo pop tunes, and the band hit the stage once more.
Concern over the direction of the band caused a rift between Guitarist Jeremy and Bassist Robin, and the band itself began to split down the middle. It was decided that Jeremy would leave the band, and IPV continued as a 4 piece for the duration.
It's last ep titled simply The In Plain View e.p. though affectionatly referred to as the 4:20 sessions, due to it's recording on April 20th, stood as a curtain call for the band as they bowed out from the spot light as members left to pursue other opportunities.
A. aka: Skitz M. Jones Esq. joined the military and has been trying his luck as a writer, as well as continuing to record with his new solo project Skitz Jones and The Choir of Liars.
B-Funky went off to college, trying his hand in politics, and studying abroad.
Frankie continued hitting the skins for other bands in the area.
Robin went off to college.
That's it.
There was an attempted IPV reunion show in 2004, but the closest that ever came was A. and B-Funky playing acoustic sets at small gatherings.
Breaking News!!!
As of the 4th of September 2007, B-Funky and Skitz Jones have reunited to lay down some rough demo tracks in preparations to have finished songs recorded in the not too distant future. The songs are recorded under the sideproject name "Suryat", and with 3 tunes in the works, a new ep can't be too far away.
