Singing is like breathing to me, I have to do it.. Music is my deepest passion. I..ll never stop dreaming or imagining.
I..m touched by small stories and beautiful melodies. I..m fascinated by the secrets hidden in a phraze and how music and lyrics touch in different ways - differently different people, differently in different stages of our lives.
I love music in general, but nothing thrills me like jazz. The way it..s never the same twice in a row. The feeling when you connect with a fellow musician in a way never possible by rehearsing, it just happens.
I..ve played with guitarist Peter Engberg for the last 9 years. Our repertoire includes jazzstandards, original songs and newly arranged Finnish popular music. We..ve released two CD..s featuring mainly standard songs and a few originals - "Standards" in 2003 and "A Rose" in 2007. Our newest CD "Ystävien Kanssa" (meaning With Friends) features material we have arranged for a jazzclub "Join the Club" we..we been hosting since fall 2008 at the Hotel Torni..s American Bar in Helsinki.
I feel very at home in an intimate setting, but the other side of me is the glamorous Diva who likes to flirt with her audience and get dressed in beautiful gowns... I love a really cool Big Band sound. I was very lucky to meet conductor and arranger Antti Rissanen with whom I had the opportunity to pursue this side in me. Monrepos In My Heritage is a dedication to the 85 year old living composer legend Erik Lindström. I ended up choosing material not very well known and together with Antti and the fabulous Sibis Big Band we recorded a CD that was released in December 2007. In July I was proud to present this material as a warm up for the Manhattan Transfer at the Imatra Big Band festival.
I graduated Berklee College of Music in 1990 and now teach at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. I also run a music school "Rytmi Omena" together with my husband Ape Anttila.
