Good storytelling is what makes Rant's music & lyrics stand out. It's not always about the chorus or the hook, in fact some of the songs of CELLOPHANE FOLKLORE don't have choruses, they are more linear in style, weaving a pattern that draws the listener through highs and lows but never leaves them feeling incomplete.
AFTERBURN is a perfect example of a linear song, and one that tells a triumphant story of overcoming the fear of death. Texture, atmosphere and vocal layering give the songs of CELLOPHANE FOLKORE a very original sound. Rant plays all the guitars and keys and provides the signature vocal sound. Sly plays bass. All the recording and mixing is done by Rant at his modest studio "Romance". Rant has also worked with many local artists, providing arrangements and producing numerous tracks. Recently Rant produced ENDLESS DAY, written by Sly and featuring Katie Griffin. This song won 2nd place in Billboard's World Song Competition in the pop category in 2006.
Rant is also the lead singer for the power pop/rock band The Vehicle. And with his brother and bass player, Sly, they have formed a very powerful writing partnership. Their songs have been appraised by the very successful Toronto based company, Arpix Media, and used in YTV's "Girlstuff/Boystuff", Disney Channel's "Naturally, Sadie" and "Life With Derek", Global's "The Jane Show" and "MVP:The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives" and Family Channel's "The Latest Buzz".
