The lushness of the new continents give way to the barren wastelands of deforestation and industry and leads to climate change and major imbalances in nature now threatening the planet.

The Industrial Revolution was the watershed moment in humanity’s ability to exploit nature – but not without a price to the earth and therefore ourselves. Ecology was a value of the anti-industrial Romantics and Luddites, considered throwbacks until the environmental consequences became too obvious to ignore – ie. smog deaths. Petroleum began replacing coal but not without similarly detrimental effects, and today its scarcity is finally pushing even that industry to pursue alternative energy sources.

Recent advances in biodiesel and ethanol production; wind, geothermal and solar power technologies provide hope. (ie new ideas: wind turbines set on rigs out at sea) Europe has been the most progressive continent on these issues; the first to industrialize and the first to recognize environmental effects.

Globally, 2006 was heralded by many sources as the year where climate change awareness truly hit the mainstream, highlighted by influential bell-ringers and investment in alternative energy skyrocketing –by far the fastest growing energy sector. The digital revolution has massively reduced the need for paper, but a wired world needs power all the more.

Submissions Wanted !!

We want you to be a part of the biggest indoor screen installation in the world. The point of I-REZ is to pose questions about global matters that affect us all and look for answers – in the community, in technology, in our use of media and in ourselves.

We are embedding thousands of clips into the main images which are all based on a storyboard exploring global issues and making connections with Manchester – the first "Modern" city – where the event takes place.

We want your stories and ideas to be part of the video mosaic that tells the wider story about our world – so please submit !

Then go get or make your clips and submit them, alerting the FRIEND that is closest in theme to your submission.

If your vid gets accepted, your friend will let you know. We’ll be posting the best submissions up on the various friends’ pages…

Submission Guidelines:

Video clips 3 to 30 seconds long

Size no smaller than 180 x 135 and up to PAL resolution

25 frames/sec

We don’t mind what codec you use – however please avoid DivX and any codec that uses very high compression
