The French revolution through to modern communism and the overthrow of power for the masses – “we will all have control”

Society was changed irrevocably by the industrial revolution, spawning new social classes and the concept of upward mobility itself. A quickly growing and competitive job market broke the mould of the feudal system. Suddenly a new sense of possibility was in the air– dignity and fairness for the working classes. This was the age of the French and American revolutions and the abolishment of slavery, but the art of modern democratic politics fortunately developed into a non-violent means to change. With England’s mid-19th Century voting reforms, the voice of the “commoner” was finally heard...

But if the rise of the free market and democracy ensured that citizens could speak with their franchise(s), it was only the advent of the digital revolution that allowed those voices to truly be heard: whenever and however they chose, without the anonymous cloak of the secret ballot. The internet provides a way for citizens to speak their minds, sell their ideas, and strategize social change collectively, in a forum that has given a new life to the notion of the “town hall.”

Submissions Wanted !!

We want you to be a part of the biggest indoor screen installation in the world. The point of I-REZ is to pose questions about global matters that affect us all and look for answers – in the community, in technology, in our use of media and in ourselves.

We are embedding thousands of clips into the main images which are all based on a storyboard exploring global issues and making connections with Manchester – the first "Modern" city – where the event takes place.

We want your stories and ideas to be part of the video mosaic that tells the wider story about our world – so please submit !

Then go get or make your clips and submit them, alerting the FRIEND that is closest in theme to your submission.

If your vid gets accepted, your friend will let you know. We’ll be posting the best submissions up on the various friends’ pages…

Video clips 3 to 30 seconds long

Size no smaller than 180 x 135 and up to PAL resolution

25 frames/sec

We don’t mind what codec you use – however please avoid DivX and any codec that uses very high compression
