IRIJ is a one-woman-folk-project. Influenced by traditional folkmusic from the balcans and a bitter laughter somewhere between joy and sorrow, you know.

My fascination for the musical legacy of this region, due to my own roots, grew with me within the years. You will hear old, passed down lyrics as well as mere instrumental pieces.
IRIJ is mentioned in the Slavic Mythology as the celestial residence of old pagan gods as Perun, Veles and Lada. As well as the here and now, the world you can see and touch. The materialistic world and the preliminary phase for the future souls.

But my songs, which i..m recording myself at home, are not based on that mythological tradition only. Furthermore its simply music. A completion and a relief, because we all know that there is more than just words!

the owners of this boxset are called to record their own Schattenlied (shadowsong) with these instruments and send us their song until a certain deadline (details inside the box). we will then assemble all songs to a Schattenlieder-compilation and offer it for free download.

All the recordings were inspired by the dark symbolist poetry of the Austrian poet Georg Trakl. This CD was presented live in February and March 2008 in Russia in Kazan, Rostov, Nizhniy Novgorod, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ryazan.
