Irina "Shooba-Dooba" Tomayeva is one of well-known Russian jazz vocalists. Graduated from the Gnesin Academy of Music as a choir conductor in 1992 and being a classically trained vocalist, she has various interests in music, but most of all she loves to express herself in jazz.
She has been a soloist with the MKS-Big Band led by famous Russian musician Anatoly Kroll (1993-1997), a soloist of the legendary Oleg Lundstrem's Big-Band (2000-2001) and a soloist of JVL-Band (2005). Irena has shared stage with many Russian and American jazz musicians such as Anatoly Kroll, Oleg Lundstrem, Bobby McFerrin, Lew Soloff, Johnny Griffin, , Mikhail Okun, Yakov Okun, Igor Butman, Oleg Butman, Anatole Gerasimov, Sergey Manoukian, Vyacheslav Gorsky, Lev Kushnir, Alexey Kozlov, Igor Bril', Alex Rostotsky, Ivanov Brothers, Alexander Oseichuk, Oleg Kireyev, JD Walter and many others. She has performed in various jazz festivals in Russia and abroad : Moscow, Kazan', Chelyabinsk, Novokuznetsk, Togliatti, Tiumen', Kostroma, Nijny Novgorod, Samara, St.Petersburg, Sochi, Anapa, Yaroslavl', Salekhard, Montreux(Switzerland), Forssa (Finland), Paris, Shanghai, Sardinia (Italy), Baku (Azerbaijan), Kiev, Kocktebel (Ukraine), Minsk (Belarus), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and many others. Since 2003 Irina is teaching vocals at the State College of Jazz Music and at the University of Culture in Moscow.

Irina, I hope that you and your family are in great health and spirits. I'm feeling good however, it's getting colder here in Michigan and I'm hoping to not only avoid getting sick but also that H1N1. I've never been a person to get the flu shots before winter and I've always fared well however, this thing has me wondering maybe I should change up my process. Outside of that, writing plenty of new material and the release of the new CD has been so delayed that even the songs originally scheduled to be on it has changed as newer material has emerged and sound better. I hope I can get this done before the ole dirt nap ! Being back in Michigan sucks as there are no jobs, music opportunities are far less prevalant than in Nashville and the weather sucks, still it's good to be alive and near my children. When you have the opportunity, let me know what's been going on with you and your music endeavors. Take care, stay safe, and have a wonderful rest of your weekend ahead beautiful lady !
