William / IRISH WAYS RADIO PROGRAMME FLORIDA's Interests
GeneralPeople and life in general...... and life gets stranger every year..Mind you, so do the People!
The Internet.......
Keeps you in touch with people all over the Globe..... Get connected!

Photography.... Just love to take photos of all and sundry!

Live Radio.......there's nothing like it... I've been doing it for about sixteen years now and I couldn't think of life without it!

I like writing things about these wonderful Artists too and maybe if you get a second you will post this in your browser and see what I have written for one month. http://www.irishcultureandcustoms.com/AMusic/Ramoutar/SeanTyrell.html

Then by going to site index and reviews you can find others I have written.

Ceol, Caint agus Craic..... Music, Talk and Fun! There is nothing like sitting down and just talking to friends, family, acquaintances or even strangers. I know however, that I can be too much, so I have learned to listen more and be careful not to yak too much. Although for some people, I probably am still too much! I think talking is our greatest gift from yer Mon upstairs.

My favourite thing of all though is passing "The Music" on to people who have yet to discover it!
MusicIrish Music, Scottish Music in fact all Celtic Music. But then I have been a music lover my whole life, so I have music from every musical genre.

By the by here is a website that you HAVE to look at http://www.kerrywhistles.com/dl.php . It utilizes quicktime to view it and there are videos of lots of the musicians I like and You WILL like... Or ELSE!@!!

THE BEATLES ,
STEELY DAN,
J.J. CALE,
NIGEL KENNEDY,
KATE BUSH, (she could sing to me anytime)

JOAN ARMATRADING, (do yourself a favour and find her music, even a greatest hits and listen to one of the greatest emotional singers of ALL time)
"With a friend I can smile But with a lover I could roll my head back I could really laugh Really laugh"

ELEANOR McEVOY, listen to her songs, Last seen October 9th, or, The Rain Falls, I Hear You Breathing In, in fact any of them. They'll get in your head and never leave!

LOREENA McKENNITT,
There is not one of her cds that will disappoint. Whether she is singing about Monks on Skellig , or her interpretation of Alfred Noyes poem, "The Highwayman, these are stories that will make you sit up and listen. Fascinating windows into ancient times. Find one of her cds and I guarantee, you will have to go and find more! Also now there is a live dvd and cd out that is really going to give you an idea of what a fine Artist she is. Night at the Alhambra is the title

STEVIE WONDER, not the early stuff or the later stuff, midstream!!!!!!Music of my Mind, Innervisions, Talking Book, Songs in the Key of Life, etc,

SOLAS, a real powerhouse of a band with Seamus Egan, Winnie Horan, Mick McAuley, Eamonn McIlholm,Deirdre Scanlon, buy their cd with free DVD "Reunion" and discover them for yourself! and don't forget their early stuff with the phenomenal John Doyle on guitar and Karen Casey on vocals, she'll take your breath away...... she will.

SERGIO MENDES, '66 and "77,

THE CRUSADERS, great funk band songs to listen to Sweet 'N Sour, Spiral,Soul Shadows, Street Life, It Happens Everyday. Many tunes discover them for yourself.

ALISON MOYET, when she was in ,Yazoo, named ,Yaz, in the States, because there was already a band called, Yazoo, here. At the very least, Alison, is one of the greatest voices ever in pop music, or any music!

THIN LIZZY, (God bless you Phil, you were something else)and the twin guitars of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, I think they read each others' minds...

ALYTH McCORMACK is a superb gaelic singer from Scotland and her "An Iomall" cd, is very contemporary, but shows her clever vocal work and the mind of a artist who is in this for the long haul. Her best work is yet to be and mark my words, she will be around for a very long time to come.

MUIREANN NIC AMHLAOIBH, lead singer and whistle and flute player with the great Irish band DANU, who travel the length and circumfrance of the Earth. Find their "One Night Stand" dvd. Sheer virtuosity in motion!

JULIE FOWLIS, great, great singer and musician from North Uist in Scotland and her band DOCHAS.

The late but truly great MARTYN BENNETT. He was such a genuine person and really gifted musician. A true innovator and whether acoustic or electric a master of the traditional and contemporary music. He also loved to take the piss out of us Irish and I loved him for that. When he wrote to me there was always a jab! I have always thought though, that if we can't have a laugh at ourselves first, then we can't be taken as a fun loving people. Martyn, will be seen as a treasure that is sorely missed if not now, soon.

INDIVIDUAL SONGS THAT HAVE STAYED IN MY HEAD MY WHOLE LIFE:
Eyelids into Snow by SCULLION. That sound the lads had / have, is hypnotic. What a superb song.

Don't let me Down by The Beatles...... that was a tune that wrenched my gut...maybe it was the girl..?

THOM MOORE's "Nicky's Song" with him and Midnight Well all those years ago. He has gone on to write more beautiful songs but that one.....

To a Child Dancing by CLAIRE ROCHE. A girl from Dublin who at the age of twelve put Yeats' poem to music. Stunning.

STEELY DAN's Dirty Work,,,,,, listen to it......

I saw and heard PACO DE LUCIA, in Spain many years ago and bought his l.p. and have never regretted spending the whole load of pesetas back then,. His music has carried me through the years, Entre Dos Aguas

J.J. CALE's Cajun Moon. I bought the single in a Supermarket in Spain on me holliers, when I was 15, and I have almost everything he has recorded, then or since. A true master of the guitar and laid back delivery.

Hiroshima Nagasaki and Irish Ways and Irish Laws by MOVING HEARTS...... now reformed but then they were such a powerhouse of talent, emotion, performance and joy. They still are!

JUNE TABOR, "False, False".

Do you remember the next to last verse of Zager and Evans song, "In the Year 2525"?........"Now it's been 10,000 years, Man has cried a billion tears, For what, he never knew. Now man's reign is through. But through eternal night, The twinkling of starlight. So very far away, Maybe it's only yesterday"......... Let's hope they were wrong..

Night of the Swallows.......Kate Bush,,,,,,,,,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPFsrwzNI6U&feature=related

AND THERE ARE NEWER ONES.

The Song Kothbiro from the Constant Gardener by Ayub Ogada.

And so is Love by Kate Bush...... well I love so many of her tunes maybe it is unfair just to mention that one.!

Midnight Sun by David Sylvian and a few older Japan songs too.

BANDS / GROUPS / INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS:

THE DUBLINERS, Ciaran Bourke, Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, John Sheahan, Barney McKenna and of course later on, Jim McCann Sean Cannon, Eamon Campbell and Paddy Reilly. The originals sound as great today as they sounded all those years ago. Brilliantly talented, funny and loads of personality. Dublin's status today is in a large part due to the influence The Dubliners had on us all. Lord Rest Ronnie, Luke, Ciaron, and look after the rest of them

MOVING HEARTS, probably the best Band ever! Whether they had CHRISTY MOORE or MICK HANLY on lead vocals, one of the best live experiences I have ever had.

Look for Bridget Haggerty's Website and find reviews of Mick and other musicians I have written

CHRISTY MOORE, he's yer man. Outside of all his band endeavours he has a rake of solo cds

DAVY SPILLANE,
Makes Low Whistles and Uilleann Pipes too! There's no end to his talent!

HORSLIPS, the first Irish music rock band!

JSD band ,Irish and Scottish songs played with really great instrumentation and the songs are sung brilliantly.
Find them on KRL Lochshore. By the way KRL is such an excellent label and run by a wonderful lady, ISOBEL WAUGH

RONAN BROWNE,First Piper with Riverdance now with CRAN

EOGHAN O'NEILL, the greatest Bass player ever bar none!

PAULINE SCANLON,the newest voice in the tradition,Superb!

BRENDAN O'DOWDA, singing Percy French Songs,

THE POGUES, Shane MacGOWAN is one of the finest Irish songwriters ever but not the prettiest!

KAREN CASEY, "She is like the Swallow", now solo and she has three superb cds of her own! She is stunning! and it is unlikely there are too many tracks where the instrumentation could have been better. JOHN DOYLE on volume pedal guitar, WINIFRED HORAN on fiddle and MICHAEL AHARON on Cello. Superb Synchronicity

JAPAN...... DAVID SYLVIAN...."they've stolen the Moon, God even knows when"......

LINDA LEWIS........Rock A Doodle Doo. I know you won't know her, but you should!

SHAWN COLVIN,

CHERISH THE LADIES
Quite literally a powerhouse band of either Irish or Irish American women who could play the drawers off most. They are one of the most hard touring bands in the history of the music and are thoroughly brilliant at all they do. They have done concerts in the heart of Irish traditional strongholds and have won over the "hardnose" musicians with their prowess. An absolute joy to see in concert with their "Ringmaster" JOANIE MADDEN, a superb whistle and flute player who is as much fun to listen to as she is to watch. She usually has audiences rolling with laughter through her magnificent sense of humour but she is no nonsense when it comes to having the flawless sound of the complete ensemble her priority.
Now with ROISIN DILLON on fiddle one of the unheralded true new treasures in the music.
Her brother EAMONN is another "new" musician to try and find. A truly fine Uilleann Piper!

Their ex lead singer HEIDI TALBOT, is also one of the finest voices you may ever hear. Really!

FLOOK. with SARAH ALLAN and BRIAN FINNEGAN on twin flutes and whistles, ED BOYD on guitar and JOHN JOE KELLY on the bodhran...... where would you get it??

English Band, IMAGINATION,...I know it's disco stuff ...Who ast ya????

CLAIRE ROCHE, harpist from Ireland who has put W.B. Yeats poetry to music, brilliant!

FIONA DAVIDSON, harpist, bard, now a spiritual advisor, but the best exponent of traditional mouth music there is.

BRENDAN NOLAN, a singer from Artane in Dublin and now living in St Petersburg Fl. His day is coming, a marvellous Irish Artist and Musician.

CAT STEVENS, listen to Sad Lisa, Longer Boats, Wild World of course ...loads of great songs.

JOHN SPILLANE .and his ex band NOMOS...

MIGHTY SPARROW
Calypso Artist from Trinidad,

PAUL MOUNSEY,"the groove is inherent"!

SHARON SHANNON, and her Sisters too! Great Musicians! and not to forget the Brother...... Garry is a brilliant musician too and dandler!!!
He has a brilliant workshop / week called Meitheal, where you can learn from master musicians such as himself and learn the "craic" for real!

Ah Now! The reason most of us fellas started to listen to Irish Music at home was...MAIRE NI BRAOINAIN and Clannad. She is simply called MOYA now and her sound is astounding. She is also the older sister of "ENYA".
I remember sitting in the Olympia Theater in Dame Street at midnight waiting for them to come on.......and all of a sudden there she was out of a mist.... She's still great and always will be..

Paste this into a web address browser and see some great musicians at their best http://www.kerrywhistles.com/dl.php

There are loads and loads of GREAT new artists too. Check them out by searching for them on the internet or look for them on the Playlists or friends I have on here.
Such as PADRAIG RYNNE, simply phenomenal box player.

DAMIEN O KANE and SHONA KIPLING, Damien is from the North of Ireland and is a marvellous Banjo player and Shona is from England and plays Accordion. Their new cd is called "Box On".Buy it!

PAULINE SCANLON ex singer with Sharon Shannon now with her own band AND TWO superb cds of her own
TARA MacKENZIE, such a great singer from Ireland and now living in Canada

SHONA LE MOTTEE a fiddler from Jersey, an island off the coast of England.

ASHLEY McLEOD,she's another great new fiddle player from way up North of this rainy Florida of ours!

TROY and KENDRA MacGILLAVRAY,from up there too. Troy plays Piano and Fiddle and Kendra plays Fiddle.

Beoga, wonderful band who have just added a great new fiddler and singer and she is terrific.

BRENDAN RING,marvellous piper and whistle player now living in France.

SEAN TYRRELL,who has a fantastic selection of cds and who I first heard on one of piper DAVY SPILLANE's cds

KARINE POLWART, listen to her song, Hole in the Heart""! What a wonderfully inspired piece of music. It is easily the best "pop" tune to come out of anyone's head in years. I am not sure that she would want it called "pop". But if "Tops of the Pops" was still around, it would be right there at the Top! and I am sure for several weeks when it did hit!

MoviesOh, the Lord save us...there are so many I love. I'll give it a lash anyhooooo.

Diva, a quirky kind of French film with subtitles. The music, although opera, is great. I'm not that gone on opera, I have to tell you...

The Committments, the first ten minutes are the most harrowing for any non Irish.more f words than you've ever heard.you have to be from Dublin to understand!

Mary Poppins...... (Shag off, it's MY Space)

Braveheart, Scotland wha hey!

The Matchmaker, good craic,

Any Peter Sellers, Pink Panther, Film,

The Quiet Man, a John Wayne film that was filmed in Ireland with Maureen O Hara and Barry Fitzgerald (at his conniving besht!) It has a bit of Wayne and Hollywood swagger about it, but sure you'll get over that! It still has great charm even after all these years. Filmed in Mayo and actually the house has now been restored to it's former glory for the Tourists now discovering it. Wayne was asked what he thought of his time filming there and he said the people couldn't have been more beautiful with just a great outlook on life and attitude "ask about the weather, if it's going to rain and they say "you see them green hills ?, yes , Well if you see 'em it's going to rain, if you don't it's rainin' already

Many of the Marx Bros.....

Snatch,remember the squeaky toy???

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,

Several Audrey Tatou films,

Dance of the Vampires, or also called, The Fearless Vampire Killers or Pardon Me but Your Teeth Are in My Neck (1967), by Roman Polanski..... Have a few scoops and watch it with a few friends... Hilarious acting by Irish Actor, Jack McGowran,

By the way, is it just me, or do you get p'oed, that they seem to be remaking every bleedin' film known to man and making a bags of them?
TelevisionFirst off, did you know you can watch some of the Irish Telly programmes on the RTE site????! Great to be able to watch the Late Late Show etc after all these years.

Cracker (with Robbie Coltrane)

d'Unbelievables,"ah jaaz lads,yez can't be doin' that"!

Any Billy Connolly, any of his Concerts or World Tours!

English Premier League Football(that's soccer to you lot!:)

Manchester United have always been my team..... All the great players that passed through Old Trafford's doors...

To name a few: Georgie Best, Eric Cantona, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Pat Crerand, Nobby Stiles,Frank Stapleton, Gordon Strachan,Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham, Lou Macari, Steve Coppell, Paul McGrath, Ruud Van Nistlerooy, ,some of the "New" lads: Ryan Giggs,Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Gabriel Heinze, Heinrik Larsson (gone already, too soon) Carlos Tévez, Nani...... and there will be many more greats to come.

Northern Exposure,

The Dog Whisperer, they'd have a Cat Whisperer only Cats don't give a Rat's....!

3rd Rock from the Sun,

Hill Street Blues, the new shows have nothin' on this one!
Yeah still Seinfeld too!!

Blackadder, 1 & 2

Da Ali G Show, how to insult everybody in the World at some time or other and get away with it and still get you to laugh yer tail off..!

and the Ultimate....Fawlty Towers!!!!

RADIO

The Glen Abbey Show, Comedian Frank Kelly's brainchild. He must surely be the most unique comedic talent that ever was on air in Ireland. A brilliant insight into the politics of our Country was how he came to the public notice through his portrayals of the characters of Irish politicians and his sayings which were heard every day for years through the shouts of the people. Remember "GEDDUP DE YARD"? OR "bOYS OH bOYS"????
De Worald was in a Staeh' a chassis!

The Waltons Programme, if you want to sing a song , sing an Irish song!

BooksMostly any book by, Tom Sharpe. Make sure you pee before you start to read!

Almost anything by, Morgan Llewelyn, the closest you can get to being a part of history...She is fabulous.

Of interest at the moment is "The Pope's Children" by journalist David McWilliams telling it, like it is in Ireland, as to how drastically everything has changed at home and not all for the better!

SADLY AT THE MOMENT THE INTERNET CONNECTION IS DOWN DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL
It would seem there is another licence that has to be purchased or no internet and it has affected thousands of radio stations and they have all filed appeals, so we are just another. Apologies to all who have listened in the past and believe you me, the presenters miss it just as much as you do.

Who I'd like to meet:

I've met so many people over the years that have mattered to me, including relatives that have passed on. I'd love to meet them all again. Hopefully they would want to meet me too!
I would love to have met GEORGIE BEST, just to tell him how much he meant to many of us kids in Ireland growing up. He really was the fifth Beatle and in many ways meant more than them to me. His end was so sad and don't you wish, that if you knew someone who was addicted to drink, drugs or whatever the hell, you would have the courage to help them..but some tried very hard to help George, he just couldn't be helped. I also am a great admirer of his ex wife ALEX. She put up with so much and in my opinion is "some woman".

Laurent Leemans, singer and guitarist of the Belgian acoustic folk-rock band CEILÍ MOSS, is proud to present his first solo-all by myself-autistic effort: "Laurent Leemans & the Imaginary Friends Ensemble" offers 11 pieces of acoustic, minimalist and not (too) boring singer-songwritership. Discover more on his MySpage page or click on the player here:
..
Note that in the meantime, Ceilí Moss is working on its fourth album, which should be released in the spring of 2010.

Hi William,

Its been a while and we thought it was about time we updated you on what we've
been up to. Our debut EP Little World is now available at our gigs and will
soon be available from our myspace and facebook pages, you will also be able to
download it from itunes, but we don't have a release date for this as yet.

To celebrate the fact that we have now reached 25,000 plays on myspace, we are
giving you a free MP3 of Rockabye Baby. All you have to do is send your email
address to queen.elvis@yahoo.ie and we will send it to you.

We have spent the last year rehearsing with a full band and are now ready to
bring it on the road. You can get a look at us when we appear on Balcony TV
this week with the full line up. We are currently taking bookings for
gigs/concerts/festivals and can be contacted on the email above, or through our
myspace and facebook pages.

Thankyou for your continued support in what has been a great year for us!

Best Wishes

Caroline and Colin
