iRon Lion has quickly gained a hard-earned reputation as one of the most talented, African-American reggae artists around today.Lead singer,Ronnie Brandon aka iRon Lion, uses his soulful vocals as an instrument for delivering thought provoking, lyrical content. Lyrics in which themes of love, oppression and spirituality are delivered in a captivating way. His vybe is best described as undeniably roots reggae, yet, he can swing it in a dancehall direction or funk/hip hop as well,to liven up the party!Whether it be roots,dancehall or hip hop,Ronnie Brandon aka i-Ron Lion is hottt on the riddim!Whether he's playing acoustic,being backed by a dj or with professional musicians providing the backup music to his originals and classic covers he blazes the crowd w/ a hot performance!
Born on the southside of Chicago,Ill. (1974)he began singing in his baptist church choir.At the age of 10,when his family moved to Virginia,he started rapping w/ local friends and forming r&b groups and reggae bands where he would always be pushed to do lead vocals!
At the age of 17,after graduating high school as a standout baseball/football player and attending college for a short while,studying music theory and business,iRon Lion returned home and eventually became the lead singer for two very popular Virginia reggae bands in the late 90's,and in effect, he began developing his roots,dancehall and hip hop songwriting and performance abilities and business swagger.In 1996-7,for several months, he held the lead spot for The Razor Posse from Richmond,Virginia(which was led by The Wailers Band drummer, Drummie Zebb)and he was also the original lead singer of Stable Roots reggae band from Harrisonburg,Virginia from 1997-2000(which was led by Chris "Peanut" Whitley-keyboardist for legendary reggae harmony group Culture.)It was during these years that he grew into his divine calling as i-Ron Lion and travelled out performing in many east coast venues!
Thru the years he has opened for The Wailers Band,Eek-a-Mouse,Yellowman,Abyssinians,Sis.Carol,SOJA and more!He is well known in the mid Atlantic region for writing reggae songs like Choosing,Reggae Jamming,Natty Dread Rides Again,Love Like This, and others!His stage presence immediately shows confidence and experience,by his ability to entertain a crowd!
He is signed to his own production co./label, iRon Lion Produx/GRO Records, but is still working towards major label distribution,yet enjoying the advantages of being an indie label!
iRon Lion admits Ziggy and Steve Marley have influenced him greatly along w/ their other siblings and first and foremost their dad,The Honoroable Robert Nesta Marley,as well as Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer,-the original Wailers.He grew up listening to gospel,blues,jazz,Motown(soul/r&b),funk,disco,pop and hip hop!Nowadays he mostly enjoys Studio One music from Jamaica which he feels escaped him as a youth,he states," Jah saved the best for last w/ me,even though I always heard some thru the wind,like w/ the Wailers,Black Uhuru,Gregory Isaacs,etc. I never knew how much more was out there y'now, til later,this good music from the carribean,our sisters and breddas we were separated from because of slavery,saying Africa Unite and One Love for all humanity,which was on the same vybez I was on as a christian anyways,I was like yeah I dig that!"
