The Iron Rose Tour is a journey through the spoken words, conjuring the energy of
women writers throughout our history, from Phyllis Wheatly to the women of the
Harlem Renaissance to the women of the Black Arts Movement to todays poetry
slam movement. Bringing works from such acclaimed artists as Sonia Sanchez, Ntozake
Shange, Dorothy West, and Nikki Giovanni- from the page to the stage; this perform-
ance echoes the voices from the past, present and future-
unlabeled and obvious

Iron and Rose
Performance poets, Tameka L. Barnette (AsajaGroove) and Keisha J. Moore (Lady
Laureate) are both three time members of the nationally ranked Columbia Poetry Slam
team, have performed in venues all over the country, in Regional and National
Competition; conducted workshops in community centers, schools and churches; and
had their work published in several notable Journals and Anthologies. In this carefully
choreographed showcase Barnette and Moore combine to present their own original
poetry intertwined with works from the women who have molded history with their
words.
