| About ISABELLE NOËL |
Isabelle Noël is a Toronto-based composer, producer, audio artist, and DJ. She produces remixes and mash-ups under the name SIQUEMU (french 'verlan' slang for "music"), as well as atmospheric film-noir dance tracks in French and German for her badass international saboteur singer persona, MAO MAO. In the past she has also produced, under MIRABEL, psychedelic electronic folk tracks influenced by early 70's Canadiana; and as MIAU MIAU TM, experimental live mash-up performances drawing on her vast collection of vintage french pop. She has also been commissioned by numerous filmmakers, directors, choreographers, designers, architects, and visual artists to create original soundtracks for various projects and spaces. / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Past projects include: a set of live experimental techno based entirely on ambient sounds recorded in Toronto, performed at Toronto's Nuit Blanche (2007) / / / / live sound-manipulation with Los Angeles activist/audio-art collective Ultra-Red in their Silent/Listen performance at the Art Gallery of Ontario (2006) / / / / a number of tracks featured on Ultra-Red compilations (Public Records); one of which, "Get Rich or Die Tryin", was featured in the Ctr Alt Del program of the Istanbul Bienniale (2007) / / / / a cover-art poster for Art Metropole's 2007 audio-art catalogue based on lyrics by Gwen Stefani / / / / a music video series entitled "The Canadiana Project", shown at Mercer Union Centre for Contemporary Art, Toronto (2006) / / / / soundscapes for projects by conceptual artist Kianga Ford (presented at the MoCA North Miami, 2006, the California Bienniale, 2006 and the Baltimore Contemporary Art Museum, 2008) / / / / a set of live experimental techno for the Toronto launch of new electronic instrument the 'Tenori-On' (2008) / / / / / an audio-art piece entitled "Allophone", featured in the Literatur Schallmauer festival, Vienna (2002) / / / / soundtrack for Theatre Rusticle's "Bride's Albatross" (winner, best play, San Francisco Fringe Festival, 1998) / / / / sound design for Alissa Firth-Eagland and Brenda Goldstein's video installation "Spin" (featured in the Toronto Images Festival, 2008) / / / / a remix of Epic 45's "England Fallen Over", featured in Aleesa Cohene's "Like, Like" (2009) / / / / a remix of Kids On TV's "Poison" (2009) / / / / remixes and production for various other artists / / / / / / / / Currently, she is working on new material for MAO MAO, as well as numerous soundtrack projects for film and television. / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
