Isabelle Noël is a Toronto-based composer, producer, audio artist, and DJ. She produces remixes and mash-ups under the name SIQUEMU (french 'verlan' slang for "music"), as well as atmospheric film-noir dance tracks in French and German for her badass international saboteur singer persona, MAO MAO. In the past she has also produced, under MIRABEL, psychedelic electronic folk tracks influenced by early 70's Canadiana; and as MIAU MIAU TM, experimental live mash-up performances drawing on her vast collection of vintage french pop. Last year I had a vision to type in 5am on Google after completing a track at that moment in time. I found a poem by Allen Ginsberg called 5am which described how I was feeling right then.
My purpose over the past year has been to capture that 5am vibe in sound and visuals. My journey has been further inspired by the works of Rumi, Maya Deren and Stan Brakhage
Id like to thank everyone who shined their great yellow vibes across my path while making these sounds..... Keep walking that yellow brick road!!!
It's like lying in a warm sea as the sun and the gentlest waves
Thanks for checking out my sound and visuals ;-) I don’t have a CD out a the moment but I have a upcoming net label release which should a ready in the next few weeks I give you a shout when its good to go. Your music sounds and influences remind me of two artists that have inspired me to find my own path.
Your sounds in places remind me of Matthew Herbert’s album around the house. On that album there’s a track called “so now” which is one of my favourite tracks of all time. I'm looking forward to checking out Les Mitsouko after reading that they were produced by Tony Visconti. He also produced a lot of Bowie albums. I’ll never forget when I first heard the Low album… it was like taking the red pill from the matrix ;-)
We we're not able to travel to Canada. We had to cancel our gig at the Social. Sorry about that. Please enjoy Laurie Anderson for me. Let's keep in touch!!!
