Hi my name's Ste Watts, welcome to our Isabelle's Challenge MySpace Site.
So what is this all about? I hear you asking.
Well in short mine and Michelle's baby girl, Isabelle, was born prematurely at just 21 weeks and 3 days and didn't make it through.
When we lost Isabelle we made her a promise that we would do everything that we could to stop things like this from happening to other people and that's when we discovered Tommy's the baby Charity.
Straight away we decided that we wanted to start raising money for them in a bid to help research into preventing miscarriages, and unborn and premature babies. We pledged to raise £10,000.
I also wanted to do something that would challenge me both mentally and physically and that is when I found The Avenue of Volcanoes.
This challenge is rated as extreme and takes places on the rocky landscape of the Ecuadorian Andes. I will aim to climb 4 Volcanoes over a period of 11 days, one of which is Mt. Cotopaxi, the world's highest active volcano (5,897m).
This trip is far from a holiday with me having to battle changing climates from tropical to glacial, adjust to high altitudes which can cause severe sickness, cope with minimal facilities as well as having to learn basic Spanish. Please note that even though my Mum lives in Tenerife my Spanish currently extends no more than de la cerveza un camarero por favor!
My Brother Gaz was going to be doing the Trek with me but this now clashes with when he starts Uni but he has been fantastic and has raised a large percentage of our total.
