Born in San Diego and the youngest of five siblings, Issa moved to Los Angeles to try her luck in the city of opportunity. In late 2004, the Latina/Filipina beauty’s dreams were answered with an audition for the R&B group TLC's television show "R U the Girl." Issa secured a finalist position but when the contract was sent to her, she became concerned about limiting her options. She felt if she could land a position as a finalist for "R U the Girl," she could probably find some other opportunities as well. She decided to roll the dice once more and explore other avenues. She was introduced to music industry veteran Kairi Brown, who recognized the potential she had and quickly signed her to Sound on Sound Entertainment. Issa has been around music from the time she was very young. Her mother was a singer, her uncles still have a Latino band in San Diego and she grew up listening to the likes of Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Temptations, Tina Turner and Donna Summers. As she got older, she listened to a wide variety of music including jazz, pop, R&B and rock, but was especially drawn to the strong, soulful voices of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and the sassy, female-empowering rhymes of TLC. Her debut album, Hurt No More (Bungalow/Universal), will be released in 2008 and is filled with up-tempo dance grooves listeners will want to play over and over. She has recorded singles "Let me be the one" featuring Jim Jones and "Stay Up" ft. Fat Joe. The video to "Stay Up" was featured on many video shows such as BET, Cruzin TV, Yahoo Launch and Mundo. The talented singer is thankful that an established artist like Fat Joe would collaborate with her despite her relative obscurity. "I thought that he would sound great on one of my tracks and he's Latino as well, so I figured it would be perfect, she says of the pairing. "He's a great person and I'm glad that he was willing to help out someone just starting out. I'm so thankful to him for helping me on this. Jim Jones was a perfect fit for my second single. He made my song blow up much more than it ever would have without him." Issa's songs convey love to that special someone, along with some good upbeat party songs, and a song that celebrates a farewell to an ex who doesn't appreciate what he had. Production credits include Big Bert, Dom and Blake, Del Pearson, and Marc Kinchen.
Issa has been featured on covers of Maxim en Espanol magazine, Dimepiece, One to One, Young Money as well as features in King, Smooth, DUB, Lowrider, Estylo, Blackmen, DTM, Black Star News, Billboard, Total Access, inside STUFF, Bello, Fever, Rego, Fuego and Playboy's March 06 Babe of the Month- Music issue (clothed).
When describing her upcoming projects she says, "There is a lot of love in my music, and I hope people feel that love when they listen to my album. I was trying to communicate love of life, love for that special someone, and appreciation of good friends and good times. Life is a gift and an adventurous experience, and I want to express that through my music." Her most current projects included a performance in San Jose on September 21st and a performance in Albuquerque, NM on November 17th- World Children’s Day. Her single “Let me be the One” ft. Jim Jones will be released worldwide on a sampler cd from McDonalds with their late night menu at: (www.theafterafterparty.com).
