Kindred spirits in Italy and the U.S. are working similar terrain, as Carvelli acknowledges. "I consider myself one of the guys who has worked hard at this for a long time. Everyone's goal is to help each other get this sound into the mainstream."

With any justice, "The Movement" will do just that. In the song, Carvelli integrates strummed mandolin, dramatic violin, and euro-dance style synths with bangin' hiphop beats and his own rhymes.

The anthemic track is accompanied by a slick video featuring sophisticated gorgeous women sipping cocktails along with a sharp suited Carvelli holding court. This vibe exemplifies Carvelli's sound and image. "Italians are famous for having the best fashion, the best exotic cars, great films, not to mention the wine," he notes. "For Italian hiphop, rap or pop to make it into the mainstream, it has to be classy too. I'm promoting my Italian heritage. That's my culture."

Carvelli is also all about stressing positivity in the music that helped him turn his own life around. "Did I grow up rough and as a bit of a bad boy? Just like a lot of hiphoppers out there, I had my times, but I've straightened out. Hiphop has kept me moving forward."

His extremely deep-rooted family values are exemplified by his proudly-displayed tattoo of his Italian grandmother. "She came to Canada off the boat, bringing four kids with her, then worked in a sewing factory,"he says. Carvelli's father and godfather were both singers, and early exposure to old Italian music left an indelible impression. He'd hear these songs while ambling at his pa's heels under the poker table, and, even then, he was tapping his hands, tossing out rhymes, and humming those songs. "As I grew up, I thought "why isn't anyone really revamping this?"

Carvelli cites the likes of Sinatra, Pavarotti, and Kanye West as creative inspirations. Earlier tracks he released scored radio play and MTV Miami video exposure. His sharpened skills will be evident on the tunes he's laid down for his new EP.

A successful entrepreneur in the business world, Carvelli formed his own independent record label in 2000.

Carvelli Records is designed to represent Italian hiphop, R n B, pop, and traditional music artists.
