Itchy Tasty met and formed at college in Bristol in 2001. The original line-up consisted of various musicians that are not currently in today's version of the band. Musicians dropped in and out like people needing services from a NHS drop-in centre until some core members finally settled.
They were: Paul Gibbs on guitars, Matt Williams on guitars/ wrong notes, Jim Mather on drums and Jase "da Bass" Sweet . . . well, you can guess what he was doing! During this period the band started to play gigs in Bristol, as well as college showcases, including a national college show in Birmingham and a slot playing in the BBC Bristol live Music Festival in 2003.
Soon after this, Itchy Tasty went into the Whitehouse recording studio in Weston-Super-Mare to record their first EP (Unreleased as of yet) which consisted of 4 tracks, varying between Post rock, metal and traditional eastern european dance pieces. Shortly after this, Jase "Da Bass" decided he didn’t like the direction the band was going in and left to pursue other musical avenues. He currently plays Bass for Bristol based hardcore band “NWS”.
Directly after Jase's departure, a long-time friend of James and Jase and very much a lover of the band and their music was drafted in. Simon White came on board late 2003 with an enthusiastic approach to push things further and have fun with compositions and ideas.
His open mindedness cohered more with the band's ideas, and the music became less heavy and more interesting. With more metre changes than an OCD sufferer switches on and off lights, more pompous dynamics, more free-jazz cacophony and a little more space.
We are currently writing material for our debut album which should be recorded at some point this summer.
