About me:

Hi, my name is Kostas Mitropoulos and I’m passionate about 4 things: my family; Small Business; Open Source Software; and my own managed services business, which helps small businesses create the IT infrastructure at the heart of their enterprise, utilizing the most powerful and inspiring software in the world - Open Source Software!

If you find my profile interesting and you're a business owner, visit my website.

About Me

I was born in Melbourne Australia in the late 50's to migrants of Greek decent. In my formative years, I took a great interest in the science and technology and dabbled with chemistry, electronics and machines. One of my memorable moments as a primary school pupil was disassembling and then re-assembling a small motor mower engine that had long been out of action and was rusting away. To my amazement I got it to work – and that lead onto my first dream and then a reality – building and racing my go-cart. What a buzz!

Later I developed a deep interest in chemistry. Using a bike I had made from spare parts I would collect chemicals, beakers and test tubes where ever I could find them and spent countless hours conducting experiments. I can tell you that hydrogen gas will explode violently and the ringing in ones ears will last for days. Luckily I only singed my eyebrows! While experimenting with chemistry (and destroying lab coats) through electro chemistry, I developed an interest in electronics.

All this steadily lead me to University, firstly as an undergraduate in the Sciences, majoring in Physics and then as a post grad in Communication Engineering, which in turn led to a career in programming and database management. After working for a large telecommunications vendor for several years, I started a company that designed intelligent control systems integrating computers with electronic control systems, writing software, designing hardware and creating networks to provide modern, intelligent control systems. My enthusiasm for new technology was so cutting edge, I even had the honour of managing the first Windows 95 implementation in the Southern Hemisphere - Yes, all the top guns from Microsoft Australia showed up, photo opportunities etc.....

In the late 90's I commenced work for a new and exciting Internet Security firm managing the Security Operations division. I soon progressed to be the General Manager and had learnt an incredible amount about Internet security. It was at this time I got my first taste for Linux and open source software, a basic ingredient for good Internet security, and quickly realised the potential of open source.

After the tech crash in the late 90’s, I started ITsManaged, the business I run today. Our focus at ITsManaged is to deliver stable and secure IT server solutions for small and medium sized businesses, expertly installed, serviced and fully managed to provide optimum performance and value.

In the last few years I have rekindled my interest in Physics and actively pursue the latest developments in quantum mechanics, astrophysics and nuclear phyiscs and apply this and my technical knowledge to improving the environment. As a father and a citizen of the earth, I believe it is our duty to care for the earth and to ensure we leave a flourishing environment as an inheritance for the generations to come.

About My Business

I am very proud of my business, ITsManaged; we provide managed IT Services to small and medium sized business in Melbourne, Australia and throughout the world, using intelligent browser based remote technology over the internet. If you are a small business owner I invite you to visit our website or to drop me a line telling me about your business. Chances are I can help you improve your business efficiency and simultaneously protect your business from disaster.

Did you know that of all businesses forced to temporarily close down after a disaster, at least 25 percent never reopen, and that of those that do, 80 percent go out of business within three years? Also around 40 percent of businesses that suffer a critical IT failure go out of business within a year.

Of course, none of my clients have to worry about this as we back up all of their critical data and systems for them to two separate locations so if an unforeseen disaster occurs, we can have them up and running again in a matter of hours.

I am very proud to serve as a white knight of small business world wide, I love saving small businesses money and protecting the sweat, blood, creativity and investment of fellow independent business owners – it is a privilege to serve them and keep the spirit of free thinking and true free enterprise alive in the world!

Why I Love Small Business

SMEs (small to medium enterprises) employ 70% of all working Australians and the figure is steadily rising. Similar figures exist in other nations around the globe. Why? Because small businesses typically focus on delivering great services and products and so generate real, salt of the earth value for all. I also love the fact that small to medium sized businesses is democratic and encompasses the true spirit of entrepreneurial activity.

We are the backbone of free thinking and free enterprise the world over.
